Hypervigilant at the lavatory (PTSD)

I am sorry for the embarassing question but I noticed that the oddest questions get answered here.

Dh has gut issues and he has ptsd and basically feels very watchful if he has to use the lavatory (=being in a small room, having to close the door behind him, hearing noises from outside and having no idea what it is). So he sometimes sends me and the kids outside. But of course we cannot always be outside.

Has anyone been there and found a solution. Otherwise please forget about it and sorry.

No experience of this I'm afraid, but what about running the tap, or if that's not an option, a white noise machine if it's the noises he's uncomfortable about others hearing?

Look u the PTSD UK page on Facebook as there are loads of helpful people there, it's not just for veterans but for everyone.

It sounds like he needs to somehow face his fears as it's not fair on the rest of you to have to live like that.

@ThelovelychebbyMcGee Yes, he us uncomfortable about not knowing what’s going on outside. Have to admit it’s the first time I heard white noise machine. I googled it and it seems to be something that makes a lot of sense.
Wonder why we haven’t been told about it before.

@GinDaddyRedux Thanks. I will have a look at it.

Thanks for bring that friendly and helpful. After posting the message I felt that it was embarrassing and people would make fun of it.

We use white noise to help DS sleep, as it helps block out all the other background noise. You can get free apps on your phone too so that may he better of with one of those if it's only occasional use.

Or, get a Japanese toilet, I've heard those have flush noises that aren't actual flushes to help cover sounds, but guess they may be difficult to get in the UK, assuming you are in the UK that is!!
