Dehydration

Oh my gosh, it should be taught in schools!

I've recently downloaded an app that includes a section to monitor hydration, I think I may have spent my entire life chronically dehydrated, I've never drunk this much water before and I feel AMAZING.

Normally I slump in the afternoon and crave wine in the evening but water fixes it.

Now I may be coming across as a bit, well, simple with all this excitement but dehydration actually explains a lot of the issues I've had over the past 40 years.

Go and drink some water people WineWineWine(okay, wrong emoji and wine messes with my target water consumption)

If you feel ‘thirsty’ then you’re already dehydrated - in reality we should be regularly drinking so that we never get to the thirsty stage

It’s absolutely fine to feel thirsty and have a drink. That’s your body’s normal homeostatic mechanism for managing your water balance.

Feeling thirsty when you’re drinking a lot all the time needs investigating though.

I agree @mrsbyers .

I love drinking water, I'd feel crap otherwise.

I agree. Breathing when you need oxygen, resting when you're tired and eating when you're hungry should also be part of the national curriculum.

Coffee and tea (depending on kind) should certainly not count. Caffeine dehydrates you. For every coffee you drink you should have double the water.
There is a reason why many nations with strong coffee culture serve bit of water with it. It's not just to clean your palate.

But I don't "feel" thirsty.

But I do agree, people do need educating on what hunger is and the difference between eating for hunger and eating out of boredom.

I think on my app (roughly) a 4oz coffee only provides 2oz of hydration, or something like that, it does hydrate you but not very well or very much.

This is a myth. Tea and coffee are less hydrating than non caffeinated drinks but overall they still increase your body’s water. That’s why they count towards your daily water intake.

What's the app called?

Coffeeunicorn · 19/07/2020 21:05

What is the app?

I track my water on the Fitbit app. Before I started I drank hardly any water ever. Now I drink 3 litres at least per day and like others have mentioned, I feel so thirsty if I forget my water bottle.

It’s very annoying how much I need to schedule my water intake so that I know I can reach a toilet easily and it can disturb my sleep if I drink too late.

All in all I feel amazing now and skin is great.

WindFlower92 · 19/07/2020 21:06

What app is this??

Roominmyhouse · 19/07/2020 21:08

I’m such a thirsty person so I do drink loads but I’m always surprised how little some people drink. I usually have 3-4 cups of tea per day, one can of Pepsi max and about 5-6 pints of water each day. I get such a dry mouth if I don’t drink enough.

At work there are people who just have a few cups of tea or coffee and no water. I couldn’t function on that! If I’m out and haven’t drunk enough I can really tell.

AlphaDalpha · 19/07/2020 21:22

The App is called "Simple", I've never used a health/wellness/dieting app before and it's really motivating, I've put on half a stone in lockdown and I'm using it for that, the discovery of water is a bonus!
