If you are working in Childcare atm do you feel vulnerable?

As above - I've recently returned to my job in Childcare and i'm loving being back but obviously there is no social distancing involved with the children.

I'm trying not to think about it but my chances of contracting Covid have clearly increased 🙄

No I’m fine, sorry!

opentheblinds · 19/07/2020 12:35

I don’t think they’ve actually manage to trace any infection which has been passed via children - in Denmark when the schools went back they had an outbreak of 70 cases but none could be linked through the children. My childcare provider tells me that with the increased hand washing etc they have had no coughs or colds (been open the whole way through for key worker children). I’d suggest it might not be the children you need to be wary of!

opentheblinds · 19/07/2020 12:43

Although from another post it may be that this has now been proved otherwise. Apolgies

LetsGoFlyAKiteee · 19/07/2020 12:45

Nope. Been back since June and happy with the way things are set up.

Sindragosan · 19/07/2020 12:48

We've had fewer bugs as a household in general from the children went back to school. Increased hand-washing etc and sick children staying at home seem to be good for everyone. I can understand if childcare workers feel apprehensive though.

Germolenequeen · 19/07/2020 14:25

Tbf we are vulnerable both through contact with the children and their belongings - unless the virus doesn't live on surfaces anymore?

We are cleaning non stop obviously and hand washing all the time - my hands are destroyed as I seem to react to every glove known to man 🤦‍♀️

I've just been back two weeks and I'm terrified, there are only a few staff back (most are still furloughed) and many of them do not seem to understand social distancing at all even with each other.
I have severe asthma so have shielded all through lockdown.
I try not to let my fears show to the children but I'm really struggling. It probably doesnt help that I live on a main road through our village so have seen many families not distancing correctly throughout.
My mental health is in tatters

Germolenequeen · 19/07/2020 14:35

@GoldenPoppy

I'm sorry to hear that 💐 and all for minimum wage probably 😔

I’m a pregnant teacher and I’m worried. I teach children who are too young to socially distance.

GeorgieTheGorgeousGoat · 19/07/2020 14:40

No I don’t. I’m a childminder so they are mixing with my own children too and touching everything in my house. I’ve never been scared of this virus though.

DH works in early years. On day 1 a child coughed right in his face. Many of the children's families are known to have ignored lockdown and SD throughout. Trying to make improvements to working conditions to protect all the adults in school and their vulnerable dependants became a frustrating battle with slt and eventually they all gave up, and accepted their fate because ultimately the children and their education have to come first.

Germolenequeen · 19/07/2020 14:50

@Welliesandpyjamas

Your DH has my complete sympathy 😕

Been working in the childcare sector throughout lockdown we furloughed a few atff but generally we have worked at 80% capacity.

Don't feel at risk or vulnerable and we work with NHS staff and their children.

And think this makes for me not being to worried about the whole covid thing.

Tumbleweed101 · 19/07/2020 17:17

I’ve worked all through lockdown and feel more apprehensive now at work than I did during the peak because we have more children attending and people are out and about and mixing more.

However we are cleaning a lot and we and the children are hand washing a lot. So far I haven’t had a single runny nose to do since a week or so after lockdown so I’m assuming the measures are working. I am a little concerned it’s too sterile though and the children are missing out on healthy bugs that challenge the immune system.

Freddiefox · 19/07/2020 17:22

Yes very vulnerable, and so do my staff. All I can do is hope children don’t pass it on. But I feel comfortable.
I also feel very responsible if my staff get poorly. The advice from the government has been rubbish and contradictory, and no support from the LEA at all.

LindowMan · 19/07/2020 17:22

I've been back a few months and don't feel at all worried. We've had no other bugs around either. I don't feel unsafe in shops etc either so maybe that's connected.

Freddiefox · 19/07/2020 17:23

Also lots of cleaning but I’d it turns out it’s airborne then it’s futile.
We have spend a lot of time outside I worry for September

Germolenequeen · 19/07/2020 22:42

@Freddiefox

Best wishes to you and your staff 💐
