To think work are looking for ways to get rid...

Recently since coming off furlough I've sensed a change in management behaviour and it may just be me being paranoid but I want others opinions.

Me and my boss had a catch up last week as she said she felt I'd become unmotivated. I have but it's mainly due to a mixture of grief from losing someone close to me at the start of the year and then covid situation.

We went through that and they offered support etc but since then I feel like I'm being watched and my work being monitored.

We all have to fill in a sheet only with totals of what we've done each day at the minute anyway so they can monitor workload.

I'm just wondering what you all think. I'm going to re work my CV and start putting applications in anyway but I just feel anxious about the whole situation.

Sorry for your loss. To me it’s sounds like they’ve noticed and change and want to support you? But you know your manager best - ultimately if you aren’t performing they will be looking to manage you to either perform or asked to leave.

If you are all filling in a sheet they aren’t treating you differently. Take the support if you like the job and want to stay otherwise perhaps it’s best to look elsewhere

It's hard but despite your grief you do need to continue to perform at work, especially as it's several months on and they have offered you support. I know that sounds harsh but if you can't cope at work you need to address the issue and perhaps see your GP for some support.

They've only just offered the support and I've never had any performance issues before. Just needed some external advice as I think I over think the situations. I do like the job though.

If you have two years or more with your employer wouldn’t be applying for new jobs - unless you have other reasons to want to move - as you’d have v few employment rights with a new employer.

Then I'd take the offered support and see how it goes.

I'm guessing it's not about you if everybody is filling in this sheet. Possibly the business is struggling due to individual's productivity declining over the past few months. It's obvious and understandable why this has happened but now they need to all to become more productive if the business is to survive.

I've seen quite a few business owners complain of this recently. It must be incredibly tough to balance sympathy towards individuals with the need to turn a profit.

I'll not have been there two years til January so currently don't have any rights if redundancy happened. I've took the offer of support and did a counselling session. I'm trying hard at work I guess I've just got to prove it.

It’s hard isn’t it. I’m so sorry for your loss. As hard as it is try and show your best side at work and make sure you up your game. I don’t know how many times my manager has said “we can’t afford to carry people” during the last few months which translates to “let’s get rid of anyone not pulling their weight”.

Toughtips · 18/07/2020 19:57

Thank you. I've been trying and thought I was doing a good job of hiding how I'm feeling but obviously not. I just need to get some fresh ideas flowing and prove my worth. I really don't want to lose my job on top of everything else.
