Confused by ebay listing

I wanted to buy this fabric on ebay and quickly emailed seller for more info about lengths.
He said the listing was only for 1m and 2m pieces at the £15 per metre and for a length of 10m I had to pay full price £50 and order through their website.

Aibu Yes if you think that's clear on the listing
No if you think it looks like you cam buy longer lengths on listing?

It says length per full meter and you can chose a quantity of 10 so I would think I can buy 10m of it from that listing.
I didn't read the details box though

66redballons · 18/07/2020 09:22

I think seller only wants to sell whole metres at £15 PM
Or will sell at a discount of £50 if you buy 10m.

Charleyhorses · 18/07/2020 09:48

He needs to change the listing. You can put 10 metres in your basket. No one wants 10 one metre lengths of patterned fabric!

Ickabog · 18/07/2020 09:54

It says length per full meter and you can chose a quantity of 10 so I would think I can buy 10m of it from that listing.

I agree. I can't see it mentioned anywhere on the listing that it's only available in 1m and 2m lengths.

Dogwalks2 · 18/07/2020 09:58

I bet they are buying from an outlet and selling on. Outlets have limits on how much you can buy. And do not allow people to sell on.

knittingaddict · 18/07/2020 10:52

From that listing I would assume that you can buy up to and including 10 meters of fabric at a price of £15 per meter. It doesn't specifically say, but I'm sure it would come in one piece rather than 10 x 1 m pieces.

It does mention the website in the description that you can get more info from the website, so he is really directing you off Ebay, which Ebay aren't keen on.

Do you want more than 10 meters op?

knittingaddict · 18/07/2020 10:59

Correction - not up to 10 meters. Looks like you can buy as much as you want as long as it doesn't go over their stock levels. Some fabrics have a max of 10 and some you can buy at least 25 meters.

wholelottahistory · 18/07/2020 11:03

Grr, he said I had to buy any length of over 1 or 2m at their full retail price from their website - it is £50 per metre.

OP posts:
knittingaddict · 18/07/2020 11:09

I'm not sure why you even asked the question. Could you not have just put the amount you wanted in the options and bought as normal?

There is no way I would pay £50 a meter for something they had put on Ebay for £15 a meter. Did you actually buy it for that price?

wholelottahistory · 18/07/2020 11:17

At first it only said there were 6 metres so I emailed to ask whether he had 10 available.
Then, yes I put the order through their website instead, paying full. Feel like a ninny now.

knittingaddict · 18/07/2020 12:43

Have you received the order? How long ago did you buy it? Personally I would try to cancel and maybe get someone else to buy from Ebay, if you don't feel comfortable doing it yourself.

The difference between £150 and £500 would be too much for me to take laying down.

wholelottahistory · 18/07/2020 13:04

It is on its way now. I will let the man know however that it seems very unfair.

TrickyKid · 18/07/2020 13:09

It's cheaper because they're selling end of rolls. If you order 10 metres it will be 10 individual pieces.

Idontgiveagriffindamn · 18/07/2020 13:13

This is what I thought. It’s whatever quantity of 1m pieces.
He’s given you the route if how to get a longer length

wowfudge · 18/07/2020 13:17

It's really not clear from the listing and I've seen other listings where you select how many metres you want and it's cut as one piece. The listing needs to be much clearer. I'd be inclined to complain to eBay because it should be amended to reflect the actual price of one piece longer than a metre or two.

EveryDayIsADuvetDay · 18/07/2020 13:26

Don't think I'd buy curtain fabric online (even without the concern that the quantity I wanted would turn up as multiple pieces) - I'd want to see precise colours and see the quality and weight of the fabric.
That said, you'd have to have tiny windows to only want a one metre length.
Hope what you've purchased is useful

soloula · 18/07/2020 13:29

eBay listings usually allow you to buy multiple amounts and it's cut as one piece. The listings always say this when it's an option. As this listing doesn't say this, I'd be way of buying more than the amounts on offer as I have a feeling you'd be getting lots of 1m pieces rather than a run of fabric.

wowfudge · 18/07/2020 14:55

EveryDay lots of eBay fabric sellers offer samples as well.

knittingaddict · 18/07/2020 15:28

If the people above are right, then the question I would ask is "does this come as one length or lots of fabric cut to 1 meter lengths?"

I wouldn't buy fabric from a seller like this. I hate listings where all the info isn't there and you have to ask questions first. It's unprofessional.

knittingaddict · 18/07/2020 15:38

I think others are right about it being 1 meter or 2 meter lengths that the Ebay listing is selling. It should really be made much clearer though. I do buy fabric from Ebay and it's usually much clearer what you are buying.

This fabric is expensive and seems to retail at about £49.50 a meter. I don't think you've been ripped off op, just been drawn in by a bit of a switch and bait advert. The advert says the fabric is suitable for curtains. Strictly speaking it is, but I don't know many windows that require 1 meter of fabric. Also you couldn't pattern match just using ends of rolls. Not good.

CardsforKittens · 18/07/2020 16:06

I don’t buy much fabric so I would have been confused by that, but I wouldn’t have bought it through the website at a higher price. That kind of bait and switch is really annoying. And like a PP, I don’t like having to ask basic questions that should be addressed in the listing. My usual cry of frustration is: “Yes, it’s a lovely top, and no doubt very flattering as you say, but what size is it?!”

WineAndTiramisu · 18/07/2020 18:37

I'd think you can buy any length from 1-284m from that listing
