AIBU to want house prices to fall

I thought a house price fall was on the cards but it doesn't seem to be happening. It would have been a good chance for first time buyers to buy their first house and get out of rented accommodation. And a chance for people to move to a bigger house for more space.

"In all of this though, my stance is that house prices are not too expensive. Because people are buying them. Houses are only worth what someone is willing to pay."

Interesting stance and a reasonable argument. However I am inclined to counter that and people are probably buying because the mortgage is cheaper than renting and it gives the buyer financial security once they have paid off the mortgage.

At the end of the day people need somewhere to live so its either buy or rent and owning is generally best in the long run so. For that reason people are still buying overpriced houses because its the lesser of the two evils.

I suppose what I am saying is that its a bit different when the object in question is a need rather than a want. For example oif there was a monopoly on water and the water company hiked up the rates people would have no choice. Buy overpriced water or die, what do you do?

I agree. Because most of them can't see any further than the end of their own nose.m

It would be nice if houses were priced for single earner households but for most you need two earners. As a single parent being able to buy a big enough house for a family is impossible.

I’m very lucky to have a council property and I’m grateful for the fact I have a stable home for my family that I can afford on a single income. I would like to have a choice to move area though which is quite difficult to arrange.

God, the irony.

Because most of them can't see any further than the end of their own nose. Would you intend to sell your house if prices fell then?! How is anyone getting on the ladder if prices fall and no one can afford to sell? Or are we simply waiting for people to die.
