Clean Break online divorce service

22 replies

HelpNeededPlease2020 · 17/07/2020 14:30

I signed up and paid for the online Clean Break service. I filled in all details and today have received email with all paperwork to sign and return direct to court for the Clean Break Order (basically means neither of us has a claim on each other in the future).
It says a solicitor has to sign the 'Statement of Truth'. The whole point of the online service is to avoid the use of solicitor and associated costs (for clarity - no dependants and all finances separated over a year ago so nothing to sort out)...
YABU - of course you need a solicitor
YANBU - they say you don't need one - so you shouldn't

PS...
I forgot to add that there is a contact number for the Clean Break Services them for queries - it goes to a dead line.
The email that they give [email protected] just bounces back...

Help - have I been conned? Has anyone else here used them successfully?

I wouldnt. I paid for an online quickie divorce and they were beyond rubbish and I ended up having to get a solicitor anyway/as well.

HelpNeededPlease2020 · 17/07/2020 14:33

I have had a google around and found this on a help site.....

Hi

I just wanted to respond to this to warn others about Clean-Break UK. They say on their website you will not have to attend court. This is not correct you will unless you are represented by a solicitor in which case he will draw up the agreement so in otherwords if you do not want to go to court then do not bother with this company.

They also do not give refunds even though they mis sell the product and they do not give advice even though their FaQs are full of it. Just avoid them is my advice (and thats free).*

I wish I had seen that before. Heck I think I have wasted my money here

Pan44 · 17/07/2020 14:34

Oh dear! Looks like it. Well if it is as straight forward as you say then it really shouldnt cost too much to go to a solicitor?

HelpNeededPlease2020 · 17/07/2020 14:35

@Pan44

I did the decree nisi bit myself and all went through ok. I was told that it would be best to do a financial agreement/clean break in case in years to come either of us made a claim on each others earnings/property etc.... the clean break online service was suggested and seemed easy to follow - Until - the paperwork shows solicitor required to sign and on attempting to contact them with a query their contact telephone number doesn't work - it's dead and the email for support just returns my emails!

And looking at that trustpilot link they own the company I tried 'quickie divorce' so I was ripped off too! But happiy divorced now so got there in the end!!

HelpNeededPlease2020 · 17/07/2020 14:37

@Toomanycats99

Thanks. I have just read it.

My was very straightforward and the actual paperwork has arrived quickly and correctly. The problem is that is says solicitor should sign... if I'd have know that I wouldn't have used online.

We approached a solicitor and quote was silly money considering that we are both happy with our split and don't want advice and separated ages ago. Nothing to split and no dependants so should be easy (in theory)

@Pan44

Glad you sorted yours and happy now.

We are happy and just this bit of paperwork to do but don't want to pay out a fortune when we don't need to. Sadly, friends have been stung financially with solicitors fees and so because we have nothing to sort out financially it seemed a good option.

Mine cost about £1200 for them to review form e and draft consent order.

HelpNeededPlease2020 · 17/07/2020 15:04

@Toomanycats99

Wow that's a lot for us and considering there are no dependent and no money etc to split
I will have to leave it and complain about the clean break service then.

ANYONE READING THIS DO NOT USE ONLINE CLEAN BREAK DIVORCE SERVICES!

Me and my ex went directly through the Gov website, it was cheap, quick and easy!

Sorry you got messed about! X

slipperywhensparticus · 17/07/2020 15:15

I was quoted 6500 just to do the clean break order thry waffled about financial statements etc I said look we are both unemployed right now we have nothing own nothing and its been five years since we were together does it really matter she said yes if your circumstances change he can claim off you I said under what circumstances? She tried telling me that if I get a decent job in the future he could try and claim an allowance...he is getting remarried soon anyway so I'm pretty sure he won't be able to claim off me anymore

timeforabrandnewnameagain · 17/07/2020 17:01

I had this and in the end didn't go through with the clean break. Same situ as you no kids, no joint assets like a house. I did pay for his car but it was in his name, so a small cost to be rid of him. Never heard from him since.

excuseforfights · 17/07/2020 17:15

OP, the CO-OP does a Financial order for £650 (plus court admin fee, which I think was £50.

Do you want the number?

For the financial order? Do you have a link? Thx

LemonFanta123 · 17/07/2020 19:51

@excuseforfights

Here it is! For once in our lives we both agreed on everything so it was just a clean break divorce Smile

We are using these too and they have been great
musicalkittens · 17/07/2020 20:46

We used them and they were fine but it was nearly 2 years ago. No solicitor needed (maybe things have changed?), although we did subsequently receive a letter from the court saying that the judge wanted further clarification on a few things.
A letter from my ex (as he was the respondent in the divorce), stating that things were as he wanted and that he didn't want to take legal advice sorted it all without going to court. It was the most stressful part of the divorce though as I hadn't known that the judge could basically said no to what we'd agreed between us.

excuseforfights · 17/07/2020 21:35

@Newwayofthinking that’s great. Have you had a simple financial order or quite a complicated one?

Newwayofthinking · 17/07/2020 21:38

Simple, he bought me out of the house and we are keeping our own pensions.
