Why do so many people on here think there is such a word as ALOT?!
It’s A LOT
There is no such word as alot.

Thank you for coming to my hormonal insomniac Ted talk.

@h3av3n I don’t care that much.
But it’s nothing to do with education. I have a friend with a PhD (science based) who always writes alot and foreward instead of forward.

Etcetera is so often shortened to ect, instead of etc., and it drives me crazy!

CareBear50 · 17/07/2020 22:02

'Chester draws' drives me insane!!

It's 'chest of drawers'.....what is wrong with some people! Grin

IHaveBrilloHair · 17/07/2020 22:04

Alot.

A lot not alot
BobbinThreadbare123 · 17/07/2020 22:06

You'll get loads of people basically saying you're Hitler for commenting on spelling, but 'alot' is plain bollocks and can't be blamed on autocorrect. See also the thread on here where someone boasts of a first class degree and a great life but uses the bullshit term 'aswell'. My autocorrect does not like that.

Witchend · 17/07/2020 22:38

I remember my English teacher in year 8 saying "you don't write afew, so you don't have alot."

It stuck with me.

HopeClearwater · 17/07/2020 22:43

@Pinkchocolate It would be really useful to have a second person plural though. French does. Scouse does (‘yous’).

sbhydrogen · 17/07/2020 22:49

I hate this one aswell.

DamnShesaSexyChick · 17/07/2020 22:51

It’s awful, the OP of a thread earlier today used it repeatedly along with ‘abit’

TenShortStories · 17/07/2020 22:55

I would imagine that the confusion with 'alot', but not 'a few' etc, stems from the fact that 'allot' is a real word.

My bug bear is the incorrect use of less/fewer.

FoldenHoard · 17/07/2020 22:55

Noone is the worst for me 😬

UnaCorda · 17/07/2020 22:59

Alot, abit, inbetween, infront, thankyou... ARE NOT WORDS!

Drives me potty.

My friend puts "beems" instead of "being as" in texts.

She legitimately thinks it's a word and I'd feel like a pedantic twat correcting her so I let it slide when it crops up, but it does bug me.

@HopeClearwater 🤣🤣🤣

I need to see this in a sentence. I can’t work it out!
lucie8881 · 18/07/2020 02:03

The kind of context she uses it:

"Beems I'm off work Friday do you want to meet up for lunch?"

It doesn't crop up all that often but it's jarring when it does Grin

tripletsss · 18/07/2020 02:08

@sbhydrogen

As well you mean 😂

Don't see why any grammar would bother people though

0gfhty · 18/07/2020 02:10

I hadn't realised this - thanks alot!

tripletsss · 18/07/2020 02:10

Just don't moan about something whilst making the same mistake @sbhydrogen

sbhydrogen · 18/07/2020 02:13

@tripletsss Whoosh 🤣

BitOfFun · 18/07/2020 02:18

'Youse' makes sense. Lots of other languages have the equivalent, and I think it was used in Old English.

Besides, I'm Scouse, and we find it useful!

tripletsss · 18/07/2020 02:31

@sbhydrogen sorry I was only joking really we just do our best. However I nearly hit someone with my car today because they littered on purpose. This bugs me so much. Minor language errors everyone does all the time

copperoliver · 18/07/2020 03:28

It makes me laugh when people put pictures up of their children and write my little angle instead of my little angel 😇. Lol. X

PhilCornwall1 · 18/07/2020 04:33

When people mix up "advise" and "advice". How hard can it be.
