To apply for a job where I dont meet all the criteria?

It's an internal promotion. Job spec is similar to my current role, but bigger projects and some line management responsibility (which I've never had before).

I completely feel like I could do it, and lockdown has made my current role so much quieter than usual and it's made me desperate for a new challenge. However, there are a list of criteria to apply and I dont meet 2 out of 8.

AIBU to apply anyway? Has anybody ever managed to wrangle a promotion without meeting all the criteria? I dont want to waste anyone time!

Thanks all, I'm going to go for it! The criteria I dont meet is the number of years experience (they ask for 5, I've got almost 4) and experience utilising one system, which I think is just an input system so I've got experience in doing the background analysis just not putting into that format IYSWIM.

@user1471548941 that is a really interesting take on it, love it!

Came in to say GO FOR IT! But as you are I’ll say good luck!
Please don’t highlight any of what you perceive to be ‘shortfalls’ because you feel a bit uncomfortable. Show them the best version of yourself and you’ll ace it.

@Ravenclawgirl

Apply anyway.

I read an article about why men are more likely to get better jobs than women and one of the reasons was that if a man looks at a list of criteria and meets one of them he applies. If a woman reads a list of criteria and meets all but one she doesn't apply. I know I am guilty of this.

I read this too! We sell ourselves short!

Go for it!!
