To think that a school report isn't much use

Especially when it talks about where my child was in March.

I would be perfectly happy with no report this year, given the circumstances, but to tell me where my son was, against end of year targets, back in March, isn't much help to me now.

Ds finds it difficult, especially in subjects that there is no way he is achieving it. It's hard to see something which makes it look like you're 'failing'

Just read statutory guidance on reports specific to the covid crisis. Schools aren't obliged to provide specific data and, importantly, should provide info on how to discuss the report. I don't think this can be done adequately when we are two days away from the end of term. And isn't mentioned on the report. So, this report doesn't follow statutory guidance anyway. I not going to kick up a fuss, I am well aware this is a difficult time, but if this report has been put out to follow stat guidelines, it hasn't done that.

GhostType - it knocks confidence and limits students aspirations.

I decided I would get in touch with school and had a conversation with ds's teacher.
I'm not wholly satisfied, but the thing I'm not happy about is the leadership decision to produce normal style/formal reports when DFE guidance allows flexibility.

I have become that parent but unfortunately so be it. I hope my usual extreme active positivity might balance that out 🤞

We had a couple of surprises in DD's report where she is "not on track to reach expected level". We've had no prior warning of this, and her ILP (she has HFA) doesn't address these areas, which is infuriating. I was "that parent" and complained to the school and they won't budge. I just hope that the teacher next year has higher aspirations for her, as the response seemed to be she can't do this because of her SEN 😬🤬.

We're in primary and our school report was overwhelmingly positive but is this normal? I can't think they're allowed to say anything negative in primary?

mrsBtheparker · 16/07/2020 11:49

Think of all the posts about lazy teachers were there no reports!

Floppysphonics · 16/07/2020 12:43

Parsley, I think emphasising the positive and ignoring the negative is definitely the way to go this year. There's no statutory obligation for schools to record end of key stage levels this year.

That was meant for NoMoreForMe, Parsley, but applies just as much to any report!

@Floppysphonics I completely agree, and I'm fuming that they've dropped a bombshell on us at the end of the year - they could have given the benefit of the doubt, or not given ratings. The report doesn't even mention Covid-19, home learning and the impact on ratings. The ratings show how much the teacher doesn't know my child after nearly 2 years of teaching her Angry. At least it's almost the holidays!

Floppysphonics · 16/07/2020 14:20

That's exactly what I feel, Parsley-an hour until the holidays here...
