To ask what surprising thing you have learnt about the work habits of your partner/dh/during lockdown

Working alongside dh has been pretty ok, but we have both realised that our work long styles are not “aligned” to say the least.

Never knew that dh is a stickler for a “to do list”. He didn’t realise that I, in fact repeat pretty much the same thing over and over to different people all day long!
He’s also a bit surprised by how much coffee I drink in the morning (don’t touch it after 1pm so he’s never noticed.) am sure there’s loads more.

What had surprised you?

I'm oddly reassured that other people's DPs also change their boxers too infrequently for my liking Confused Sorry ladies, it's a bit grim isn't it?!

Thingsarel00kingup · 14/07/2020 19:29

And we use a laundry service so I've taken to popping clean pairs in the bag as I'm embarrassed to only send 2 or 3 pairs a week 😂😂😂

@Thingsarel00kingup

HA!!

I learnt that my dh has an hour's nap after lunch - tbf I don't think he does normally but he certainly does at home.

ScrapThatThen · 14/07/2020 19:46

That his contribution to the work tea fund should be tripled, his colleagues have clearly been subsidising him.

Nibblingoncrumpets · 14/07/2020 20:02

@ScrapThatThen

It’s a good point. DH single handedly keeping the coffee capsule industry going, from the looks of things.

Nibblingoncrumpets · 14/07/2020 20:04

Also DH not able to remember more than 3 basic things to just live amongst others.

So he can remember to push his chair in, put the loo seat down and shut the cupboard but then he can’t remember to flush the loo. Or if he flushed the loo the seat is up and the cupboard is open but his shoes are away.

It’s always been like this but it’s much more noticeable when 100 x a day I’m tripping over a shoe/pushing a chair in/putting the seat down.

How much other people stress out my DH; he’s sociable so I thought he’d prefer being around people but actually he is much less stressed working on his own

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 14/07/2020 20:12

How much happier DH is when he goes to the office... Luckily he only had a week at home! Also that his work is capable of creating a proper rota with everyone getting proper time off, providing laptops to allow people to work remotely, and that most meetings can be done by video conferencing. And that apparently he's the youngster in the department that is relied on for tech issues.. despite being mid 30s!

Beachcomber1 · 14/07/2020 20:22

He’s exceptionally calm. He works in a stressful environment (funds) and I thought it’d be a bit more “buy, buy, sell, sell!!” But no, he seems to be able to hold his nerve on calls amazingly well. I can hear voices raised on the other side, but DH just keeps his voice at a lovely soothing level, and gets stuff sorted. He takes the same approach to issues at home so I shouldn’t be surprised, I guess.

I think he’s discovered I’m the “go to” person in work for lots of things. He’s often laughing at the random stuff I’m talking about on the phone. He’s said he didn’t realise how much my job involves and he’s impressed at how much I get done each day.

Achangeagain1 · 14/07/2020 20:32

I’m surprised by how calm dh is - though interestingly today he spoke totally calmly to someone but I said “oh you don’t like them do you”. Not sure anyone else would be able to tell

That Dh is incredibly efficient and gets up and starts at 5am and then is finished by 10am.

Dh thinks I don't manage my time very well. He can't believe that I answer my phone to my boss always and jump to what she wants rather than telling her I'm in the middle of something.

feelinhopeful · 14/07/2020 20:51

That he's like Grampy Rabbit on the phone. Never known someone to be so loud on a phone call. Keep expecting him to shout FOG! Even the kids have taken to calling him Grampy Rabbit!

Notlostjustexploring · 14/07/2020 21:16

I got raised eyebrows at the volume of coffee I drink.

He hovers and waits for me to look up.

It's fine, we still like each other!!
