to ask if you've experienced this on cerelle/the minipill

hi,
I've been on cereal since last August and my cycle length has ranged from 47 days to 38 days but recently its been in the 38-41 day range. This month I had unprotected sex (only using mini pill) on cycle day 11 and had brown spotting/brown cm on cycle days 14-18. I have been having really bad cramps the past week and felt like I was going to come on. I am on cycle day 49 and have taken three pregnancy tests since cycle day 45 all of which were negative. Could I be pregnant? Or is this just the mini pill? I really don't want another baby right now

I would also be seven weeks pregnant if I was

I'm probably missing something here, but how would you have a cycle on the pill - on the combined it controls when you bleed and on the mini pill you take them constantly and don't even get the "fake" period?

I've been on cerelle for years as sole contraceptive and not had anything like you describe. I did have the implant for a while (which I think is the same drug) and that produced random spotting and cramps all the time - never pregnancy related.

Alice12070 · 13/07/2020 18:59

I always have a period on cerelle and did the last time I was on it before I had my baby as well, I think the bleeding is just different for everyone on it. I just think it's weird that this month I've been very late and having pregnancy symptoms

I am on cerazette which is basically the same and as pp I am bit confused by your cycles.

Are you taking it correctly? Have you read the leaflet in the box?

Alice12070 · 13/07/2020 19:01

I'm also taking it correctly but I get very heavy periods on it that can last 3 weeks sometimes

I may be misremembering but I don't think the bleeding whilst on any hormonal contraceptive is truly a period, because you shouldn't be ovulating. The combined pill is designed to imitate regular periods but they're not really periods in the sense of being a process to remove an unfertilised egg. On the mini pill bleeding again isn't related to ovulation so no "cycle" as such.

Alice12070 · 13/07/2020 19:41

When I say cycle I mean the time between bleeding

I’m on cerelle and bleeding every fortnight at the moment after 10 years or so on it with no bleeding at all (with breaks for 2 dc). Currently waiting for gynaecologist appointment to see if I have polyps or if something has changed with my hormones since having children. Gynaecologist seemed to think it’s the change in bleeding that’s the issue not the bleeding itself as such.

@Alice12070, please consider the possibility of an ectopic pregnancy and ask for a blood test if your home tests are consistently negative, especially if you are having pregnancy symptoms. A few years back, I became pregnant on the mini pill which was found to be ectopic at 8 weeks and mini pill is a risk factor for this) and had to be removed via emergency surgery. This can be potentially life threatening (I had brown spotting but no pain do was shocked to find out, although hpt were faintly positive)

everythingbackbutyou · 13/07/2020 19:51

I was already internally bleeding at that point, so get it ruled out ASAP

I've was on the mini pill for a few years and the GP told me that it's not as "regular" as the combo pill when it comes to periods. You may have no periods at all, they may be irregular, they may get heavier (I think the NHS pages have similar info).

But it's still good to call your GP and get their professional opinion, especially if something doesn't feel right. Always better safe than sorry.

I take cerelle and have done for 4 years. I have no periods although I do get annoying spotting/what seems to be a Light period sometimes. Certainly not a regular period of any kind- it stops you ovulating (I hope!)Shock

Ilikeviognier · 13/07/2020 20:09

Ps if you’ve been taking it properly and have negative tests, I would say it’s highly unlikely you’re pregnant.

Alice12070 · 13/07/2020 20:16

I have been under an extreme amount of stress this month so I'm thinking this might be playing a part in it
