Going on a holiday with post-heart attack father-in-law

My 80-year-old father-in-law had a mini stroke and a mini heart attack a month ago. Until then he was in great shape. He's been out of the hospital for a week and is doing well: is able to take little walks on his own, cook meals, etc. (Someone is staying with him, but he wants his independence, I guess). My husband plans for our family and the father-in-law to go on a week-long holiday at the end of August. Staying in a cottage somewhere picturesque - 2-3 hours drive from where we all live. AIBU to think that it's not a good idea to take my father-in-law away from his house and, more importantly, away from his surgery and the hospital at this stage?

What does your FiL want to do?
It'll be about 10 weeks (I assume) from the stroke/heart attack, and I assume there are hospitals should it be needed (touch wood not) near-ish where you'll be going.
But I'd see what your FiL actually wants to do.

FiL says he'd like to go.

If you have concerns then would your FIL be willing to seek advice from their GP or consultant, in the guise of check what exercise they recommend he do/limit himself to?

Well, I suppose I can ask FIL to talk to his GP. Not sure if he will ...

I wouldn't go abroad so quickly after that, but a UK break after so many weeks is fine as long as nothing happens in the interim.

I think having something to look forward to would be a good thing for him. Assuming he continues to improve I think it would be ok, you could check out the location of the hospital beforehand just in case.
He will enjoy the change of scenery and the company. If he's happy to do it I'd go for it.

Sounds ideal to me for his to have a UK break with family. I’m a doctor.
