What’s with all the MLM groups?

I understand people are struggling for money during this horrible period in history right now however what’s with all the MLM groups?
In the past month alone I’ve been invited to three Anne summers, six body shop, 3 scenry (or whatever they are called), and 4 fragrance groups. 😒 I feel so rude declining the invites too as they are run by friends but really? Is there any need these days for these type of groups/selling when the internet is right in front of our faces and we can order directly and not be guilt tripped because we didn’t take part in the million and one raffles/games that people get tagged in constantly?
It’s really getting on my nerves.
Anyone else feel the same? 😂

Jist of the story: MLM huns are getting on my nerves.

Preying on the desperate. Just as they always have done.

And exploiting a bad situation for their own gains.

I've had a few friends of friends send me friend requests lately. Check their profile

01/07/2020 started work at Juice Plus.

Delete.

Is the cambridge weight plan (121 diet) an mlm. Because I've seen someone I follow on instagram saying she needs people to join her team.

Mrsjayy · 13/07/2020 10:47

I think people have been bored and maybe struggling for money so have signed up for these schemes, yanbu it is irritating I've been added and left various "buy from me" groups.

SockYarn · 13/07/2020 10:48

Any brand mentioning "join my team" is MLM.

Amibannedorwhat · 13/07/2020 11:17

They’re so pushy! I mentioned to someone I used to like a certain brand of cosmetic/toiletries and next thing I know I’ve got a friend request from a complete stranger (friend of hers who sells the stuff) I ignore it, then msg from her what’s your address they want to drop a book round, no leave me the f alone!

Yes it is.

I've had to delete somebody from my Facebook they were bombarding timelines and my stories with a magic potion that cured all and tasted delicious!

zingally · 13/07/2020 11:43

I HATE mlms.

They are scammy, and pray on the desperate and vulnerable. And they push antisocial behaviour (playing the hard sell and "help a friend out" with friends and acquaintances).

I have a couple of friends who do Arbonne (I've had a few free samples, and honestly? None of it is anything special), which is VERY expensive.
And I have another friend who is a total sucker for them. In the nearly 20 years I've known her, I can think of at least 6 she's done. She's just started another new one. "Thirty One" I think it's called. And from what I can see, they just sell over-priced handbags.

Allthebestusernameshavegone · 13/07/2020 14:14

I refuse to bug from them out of principle. I also decline to be added to any groups. I’ve got one friend on my Facebook who posts these ridiculous positive quotes daily and details of how much she’s been paid. Apparently it’s £3k this month, I highly doubt it.

My friends dd has been running one for a year or more and I'm so impressed she hasn't invited me to the group on Facebook or even mentioned any the products for sale.
I think it's the strength of a friendship when they don't ask you to support any of their children's ventures , unless I really wanted to. I can only use certain face lotions so it would be embarrassing to say no I can't buy anything. I think her one is going well and she would rather do this than work outside her home as she has small children. Works for her.
I don't see a problem as long as not at the end of a hard sell : I supported a friend who has started her own business ( not mlm) but she admitted it's so hard as so many people are starting their own cottage industries now, (especially since COVID ) and it's mostly just selling to her family and friends really.
I believe a lot of the mlm ones are a bit of con or really hard to make much money from.

My Facebook is the same lately. I can only assume that people are trying to make some extra cash in trying times. I've had a perfume invite too...I don't understand what that one is? Apparently they're branded perfumes in different packaging. No idea if that's true or completely made up!

Martin Lewis did a test on these a few years ago, although the perfumes are mostly similar they are not the same perfume in a different bottle. Also they don't last very long so you need to keep reapplying so maybe a false economy.
PoprocksAndCoke · 14/07/2020 01:08

I don't get how they keep going on about their small business, its not a business they are just selling overpriced tat for someone else and taking commission on it,

everythingbackbutyou · 14/07/2020 02:07

Fucking DoTerra - ooh, drink the essential oils. Uh, how about no? A few weeks ago an acquaintance sent me a Facebook friend request. Here I am like a big idiot thinking "Oh, that's nice, we do have a few mutual friends". Ten minutes later - "Norwex has changed my life. Leave a comment to be entered in my draw to win a dishcloth" (or something). Drives me insane.

Proudboomer · 14/07/2020 02:32

I have a friend who floods Facebook with her body shop raffles. She puts together a small bundle with a value of about £15 and then sells at least £30 worth of tickets and it seems to be the same small group of family and friends who buy them.
I have never bought a ticket but did go to one of her party’s as I used to use some of their stuff but after the way they Online bullied JK Rowlings I won’t be using them again.
