Will I be able to request another c-section?

Hi everyone. Currently pregnant with my third (very early) and have a 6 year old and 18 month old already. With my first I had an awful natural birth resulting in a 3rd degree tear, pethidine being administered to close to DD coming out and her having to be resuscitated amongst other things. With my son I had placenta previa so had am elective section at 37+5 which I loved every minute of. So calm and my recovery was good, too. Will I be able to request another section? The thought of giving birth naturally again is filling me with anxiety. :(

Yes. I would be extremely surprised if you met any resistance.

Congratulations.

Yes, you absolutely can request another section. All 3 of mine were c sections

I also had placenta previa with my first so had elective section. If I have another then I’ll definitely request section

I’m not sure if it varies between hospitals, but mine had a policy that anyone who had had a previous c section would have it as an option for next time. I did go to vbac counselling but still opted for planned c section and I’m glad I did.

I had a section for my first because she was breech, my second it was entirely my choice whether I had a section of tried a vbac - they just asked what I'd prefer.

Yes, my friend just had her second section and asked the consultant who was performing the section and he said one more would be fine, so 3 Sections in total.

They did try and encourage a vaginal birth with her second ( first was an emergency) and she just insisted, so make sure if you really want one you stick by your decision and don’t let them push you!

I had a c section at maternal request, no medical issues or past trauma. It's completely your choice (as long as it's safe to do so).

My first labour didn't progress and my baby became distressed so ended up with an emergency c section. I had a planned c section second time round and although the midwife suggested trying for a natural birth she didn't push it at all.
This time round I was advised to have a c section because of my previous ones. I don't think you will have any problems requesting a c section. Having a previous traumatic birth is apparently one of the most common reasons for a planned section and a reason they take seriously.

First was emergency section, second I asked for an elective.

They insisted I spoke to a senior midwife about VBAC before they'd discuss an elective further but once that appointment was done and dusted my consultant agreed to perform an elective for second delivery with no fuss.

Wfhwith3yearold · 13/07/2020 11:16

Had an emergency section with dd. Currently expecting my second and am having an elective section. No push back at all. The midwife and consultant have bee6very happy with it.

Mammyofasuperbaby · 13/07/2020 11:24

I have an appointment today to discuss me having a second section in a few weeks. I haven't had any push back so far in my choices.
My first was an emergency and my only experience of natural labour is miscarriages where my autonomy was taken from me and has left me deeply traumatised. So a natural birth is out of the question in my opinion.
It does depend on your trust and consultant but with your history I can't imagine you'll have too many problems

I had a c section with my first, it's was a maternal request due to tokophobia. I'm now pregnant with my second & have asked for the same.

I surprisingly faced no resistance, the staff were very understanding & empathetic which was a great relief.
