Why do I feel like this EVERY morning?

SquishyBones · 13/07/2020 07:06

I know everyone wakes up feeling groggy but for me, I feel like absolute shit every morning. Beyond exhausted, nauseous, headache, extreme lethargy, dizzy and lightheaded .... EVERY morning. It goes away once I’ve been up around 2 hours. I’m sick of it. Every morning I get Up thinking I’m going to have to call in sick it’s that bad. This has been the case for around two years now.

I’m 39 and my only health complaint is iron deficiency anaemia

This was me @SquishyBones..i thought i was losing my mind or it might be peri-meno but the doc took bloods&i was it floored to find out my iron levels were 7..so ive been taking 2 ferro gradC tablets a day for last couple of weeks and starting to feel bit better-now just need to cope with the extreme "back-up" found psyllium works on a good day and dulcolax if its goin nowhere fast! Got to get re-tested at the end of 3 months and see where things are at.

@blackrabbitwhiterabbit baby solidarity 😭

I have chronic fatigue and this is how I feel. I think the official term is unrefreshing sleep. I feel sad about it, but not a lot to be done (other than avoid the sugar cravings first thing). I do know that an underlying health condition causes it though which is the difference so I would push for some investigations, but it's not an easy journey.

jessstan2 · 13/07/2020 08:49

Iron deficiency anaemia is quite debilitating and would produce such symptoms. Surely that is a condition that can be corrected, being anaemic is not pleasant!

Someone else suggested checking your gas appliances for carbon monoxide. Please do, better to be safe than sorry.

When I was young and younger, I used to feel very much as you do every day of my life but there was nothing physically wrong with me. I've no idea why I was like that, it was horrible but I'm not like that now.

I hope you get this sorted, op. It's no joke.

Do you grind or clench your teeth? I had similar symptoms from clenching teeth at night. It's called Bruxism. Much is still being learnt about it, but it can also cause/be caused by sleep apnoea.
My symptoms have been eased in the main by wearing a mouth guard. The early morning head pain was so debilitating that my doctor red flagged me for a brain aneurysm.
I knew from my dentist that I clench my teeth/jaw at night because of tooth damage, but I ended up seeing doctor and dentist on the sane day, and so we went for the mouth guard before doing any other tests.
I really feel for you, and definitely recommend a doctor and dentist appointment. Good luck!

I feel your pain op, I find it really difficult to get going in the mornings and often wake up feeling like I have a hangover. I know I don't sleep deeply at night though (I wake up a lot and every little noise disturbs me...it was an owl hooting outside last night!)

aLilNonnyMouse · 13/07/2020 09:02

For me it turned out to be a dust mite allergy. Changing all the bedding to anti-dust mite stuff and taking an anti histamine every morning fixed it.

Whoateallthecheese · 13/07/2020 09:06

Anemia can sometimes be caused by coeliac disease, have you been checked?

Veryhungrycaterpillar84 · 13/07/2020 09:12

Have you done a pregnancy test?

magicmallow · 13/07/2020 09:13

could be something to do with your circadian rhythmns, if you're interrupting a "deep sleep" cycle with an alarm or something it can really throw you off. You need to try to get to bed a bit earlier if poss and get up at the same time every day. Have a google about it, interesting stuff. Also there are apps that can wake you up at the right point of the sleep cycle I believe.

I would suggest the iron deficiency is the reason you feel like that. I could be wrong but i wake up in the night and in the morning feeling like that. I have low b12 and have injections but when I get near the date for the next jab, I feel shit.
ChikiTIKI · 13/07/2020 09:24

I've been feeling like this recently. I do have a small baby but wondering if it's iron levels as I am getting plenty of sleep.

Didn't consider it might be teeth clenching. I have a mouth guard thing so will try that. I've got a wisdom tooth coming through at the moment which hurts and is making me feel very tense.

Just feel so achey and tired in the morning and want everyone to leave me alone 😅

Hope your symptoms can be easily fixed soon!

Jeremyironsnothing · 13/07/2020 09:29

I used to describe it as being woolly headed and felt like it for most of my life. Mine was caused by a deviated septum and polyps. I was eventually operated on and have a plastic insert to widen my nasel passage. Made a huge difference.

suggestionsplease1 · 13/07/2020 09:31

Sleep apnoea?

titnomatani · 13/07/2020 09:39

Under active thyroid?

44PumpLane · 13/07/2020 09:42

You need to get your anaemia in check as that may be the entire root cause of the issue.

I have iron deficient anaemia and when I don't take my ferrous sulphate I feel like this and it's because you're not oxygenating properly

dontdillydallytoolong · 13/07/2020 09:52

Could be low blood pressure. Worth getting it checked and trying to stay hydrated before bed and maybe have snack before you go to sleep.

Hellbentwellwent · 13/07/2020 09:52

Question for everyone getting vitamin b injections, how easy is it to access these? I’ve an email mywhole life, every time they test my iron levels my gp tells me I’m anaemic and puts me on iron tablets. They never seem to do much but I’ve never been offered anything else. I used to think it was because I had such heavy periods but now I’ve had a hysterectomy so that’s definitely no longer the cause!

Hellbentwellwent · 13/07/2020 09:53

^^ typos, I’ve been anaemic my whole life not I’ve been email 🙄 also, meant to say that I feel exactly like you every morning op, have done for my entire adult life since my teens

Brefugee · 13/07/2020 09:56

How are you handling the anaemia, OP? sounds as though you're getting rubbish sleep, but the only thing I'd suggest is go back to the GP and review your treatment and make sure you eat lots of green leafy veg and drink lots of water.

Cociabutter · 13/07/2020 10:02

Do you drink alcohol ? I always sleep badly and feel crap the day after drinking - and I only have 3 glasses of wine !

Only!! Shock

RB68 · 13/07/2020 10:03

Also something not suggested is diabetes or being prediabetic - the liver does a dump of sugar in the am and if this is overloading your system it could be that you need to adjust you diet (particularly what time you eat carbs and what type of carbs they are, at night) and can leave you with those feelings in the am.

Also it could just be down to what you are eating if there are lots of additives etc and the liver is struggling to process them - I would test for that and also get your liver tested for functionality as well as its job it to rid the rubbish and it is likely that leaving you feeling like shit int he am

ButtWormHole · 13/07/2020 10:05

Isn’t this the definition of low iron?

UpToonGirl · 13/07/2020 10:19

I often feel like this in summer and think it may be linked with my hayfever. Either the hayfever itself or the antihistamines.

EasterBuns · 13/07/2020 10:22

I suffer from regular bouts of depression and that is how it hits me.
