Posting for traffic.

Getting two little boy kittens on Tuesday and absolutely thrilled, so excited.

However, I have never had a kitten or cat in my life so not too sure what it entails.

Any tips or words of wisdom ?

Should you not have looked into looking after kittens and what it entails before you committed to getting them?

Lockheart · 12/07/2020 19:59

Try posting in the litter tray rather than AIBU, for a start.

But I second the above poster - if you don't know what owning two cats entails, you shouldn't be getting them.

Where are you getting them from? A good breeder/home/rescue centre will give you lots of guidance.

Lockheart · 12/07/2020 20:39

No I won't fuck off.

Getting a pet is a huge commitment, especially one such as a cat, which can live for 20 years. That's a big commitment you're making without apparently knowing much about it at all.

And you're getting two of them only next week.

How much research have you done thus far?

jokerismyfave · 12/07/2020 20:48

@Lockheart none of your business

Sooo jealous I love cats.. I just lost mine.. I've always had cats.. plenty of time, theyll find their way in your house and decide where they want to sleep rest feel safe x

LadyFlumpalot · 12/07/2020 20:55

Harsh response from the first few posters there...

I'm sure the OP has done all the research, however reading/learning about is very different from living with as I'm sure all of us who ever attended ante-bark classes and read the blogs can attest too.

I got my first kitten last year, I was unprepared for her ability to get to anything and everything that I thought was safely put away.

Also, resign yourself to scratches sofas, pulled carpets and standing on sharp bits of litter with bare feet.

Don't be lazy and hoover up clumps of litter on the floor because it will turn out it's actually sawdust held together with cat shit and your brand new Shark hoover will ming for weeks.

Get a decent hoover. Sharks are excellent (money back on Quidco through the Shark main site).

No matter how much you try to feed them a decent high meat, no grain diet, they will turn their noses up at anything that isn't fucking Felix.

You will spend a large percentage of your life trapped under a sleeping cat whilst desperate for a wee and the rest of your life turfing them off the worktops...

Enjoy and post pictures!!

Ante-bark? The fuck? ANTE-NATAL!

1Morewineplease · 12/07/2020 20:57

I’m with @Lockheart and @KeyWorker
You really should have done your homework on this by now.

NotEverythingIsBlackandWhite · 12/07/2020 20:57

You might be excited but, frankly, you are also being totally irresponsible.

I only hope that the seller/breeder is responsible and doesn't let you have them when they realise you don't have experience or knowledge of keeping cats. You really need to do your research before you decide to have pets which might live with you for the next 20+ years.

jokerismyfave · 12/07/2020 21:17

Oh for goodness sake, I have read up for months on cats, I know how to care for them. Do you honestly think I would buy a cat without having any knowledge on how to care for them? 🤔

I was looking for a bit of personal knowledge from cat owners that is all.

cats will rip carpet to shreds if they want to get through a door and are very affectionate but also can be champion sulkers! they would rather starve than eat something they do not approve of!

Voice0fReason · 12/07/2020 22:06

Kittens need to play - if you don't play with them they will find things to play with - and you might not be best pleased with their choices!
Toys are not expensive so it's worth getting a few different ones.
Scratch post/mat/pad are a must - they will scratch stuff.
Set meal times is a great way of setting a routine.
My cats love their water fountain - not essential but better than a bowl.
Be prepared to try out different kinds of litter - cats can be very fussy!
And a cat tower is great to have - cats love to climb.

Thank you so much to the posters who gave useful information! I can't wait 😊

Post on The Litter Tray - you'll get better responses.
(Convention is that you post a picture for everyone else to coo over).
