I'm guessing if you do other family can't come into the house to visit and would have to be in the garden?

Yes

So the other thread where the hostess won't let her guests in to use the loo is just being overly cautious ?

The rules went out of the window weeks ago. just use your common sense .

bigchris · 12/07/2020 18:08

I think that is the problem, my parents are 81 and 86, live 3 hours away

Is it common sense to go and stay for a weekend?

If we don't go in the summer will we be locked down and not be able to go at Xmas as everyone is saying the winter will be bad

Hard to know what to do for the best as at their age don't want to not see them iykwim

I've just come back from a night away at my sister in laws. We slept in the garden in a tent and my mil and fil slept in their spare room. We all socially distanced in the garden and used the downstairs loo. We used anti bac wipes and took our own hand towels and hand sanitiser. It worked well. Even though I was absolutely dreading it (because of the situation not because of my in laws who I love very much!)

I read the gov.uk website really carefully and yes, two households can stay together in the same house. If you are bubbled with another household, that counts as one household and you can have one other household stay with you.

I.e. you and your parents are bubbled despite living in separate houses normally: counts as one household of 3 people. You can then have one other household of your sibling and partner and child stay over as that is two households together, but you should try to socially distance still even within the house.

Which country are you in?

TheGreatWave · 12/07/2020 18:24

We're going next weekend to my parents, though stopping in a premier Inn overnight. I've told my sister she'll have to stay in the garden when she comes to see us.

heartsonacake · 12/07/2020 18:28

You’ve been able to stay with another household (both any size). since 4th July.

Hinckers · 12/07/2020 18:30

Two households can spend the night under one roof.

More than two households can only meet in the garden.

The advice is very clear.

bigchris · 12/07/2020 18:49

I'm in England

Thanks this has been helpful, just feel a bit nervous I guess, don't want to give them anything, don't want to not see them

@heartsonacake thank you , just feels odd, both my parents and our families situations haven't changed since before the 4th July, it's like an arbitrary date isn't it lol

@Hinckers unless they need the loo Grin

And if something else happens to your parents and you didn't see them when you could how bad will you feel then.

Be extra careful for the week before you go but other than that, unless one of you is in a close (caring) person facing role at work the chances of you having it are close to zero.

No matter how close you get you can't spread it unless you have it. And if you are being reasonably careful there is very little chance that you have it.
