Does anyone ever need it again??

We are moving, I'm wondering if it's time for (the shelf full) of all the notes and ting to go...has anyone ever regretted a recycling frenzy of brainy paperwork?

AIBU? Too much stuff going on I'm lacking judgement skills today

I'd so appreciate some Mumsnet grounding!! Thank you Smile

I have a hard copy of my dissertation and that is it, notes and stuff went years ago. There are probably some files on an old hard drive somewhere but no paperwork.

JammyHands · 12/07/2020 16:25

I've go two degrees and two qualifications that required multiple assignments. Haven't kept any of the paperwork.

Spied · 12/07/2020 16:27

Chuck it.
( Just don't Chuck your certificate like I didBlush)

bettsbattenburg · 12/07/2020 16:31

I got rid of all of mine including all my assignments and my dissertation, I wish I'd at least kept that now - I can't even remember what my dissertation was! Blush

Nooz · 12/07/2020 16:50

Thank you, that's helpful! Thanks too for the giggles, I have no sense at all today so I'll double check the recycling for certificates and the cat Xx

Just came on to say what @Spied said. Expensive mistake!

AnnieMaul · 12/07/2020 17:06

I chucked everything of mine about 2 years after graduating and have never needed any of it since (10 years ago)

In retrospect i'd have perhaps kept a copy of my dissertation, but that's more for nostalgia than anything.

spence246 · 12/07/2020 17:23

kept all my essays and dissertations from my degrees, chucked the notes etc.

ShebaShimmyShake · 12/07/2020 17:24

Dissertation yes, nothing else.

NotEverythingIsBlackandWhite · 12/07/2020 17:26

One day you might want to look back at it. I would scan it so that you always have a soft copy then shred/throw away the hard copy.

Haggisfish · 12/07/2020 17:26

I kept dissertation and some notes on rockpool ecology that I particularly liked and wrote on a field trip.

2 degrees and one post grad certificate - 8 years of work all recycled last year it was strangely cathartic. Caused my DP to twitch horribly he has all the notes and minutes from all the meetings in the development of two high performance cars he was involved with. Not that he's looked at a single one for 16 years. He has to keep them in his workshop.

I have everything. I shouldn’t. 😬

MsEllany · 12/07/2020 17:38

I graduated in 2006. Kept my dissertation and my certificate but that’s it.

JonHammIsMyJamm · 12/07/2020 17:43

I also have everything, @madwoman1ntheattic. My DH looks at me like 🙄 every time we have a big clear out.

StarsOnAMat · 12/07/2020 18:03

I chucked most my degree stuff when I moved. Kept my dissertation but recycled everything else. Also binned most of my police college notes at the same time. My probationer was aghast until I pointed out a lot of the laws I was taught had changed significantly in a decade (Scotland).

ErrolTheDragon · 12/07/2020 18:07

DH has referred to his PhD thesis once in a while, and mine was just the right height to raise the height of a monitor.
We do both use the textbooks occasionally.

PeppaPigMakesMeGrrrrr · 12/07/2020 19:05

I kept some of my notes and some textbooks.....luckily as I've started a new job and now, 10 years after graduating, I will be delving back in to brush up on some bits that have gone dusty in my brain!

Marriedtoapenguin · 12/07/2020 19:09

Certificate and a couple of text books just so I can go and read them and remember absolutely none of it every now and then.

scissy · 12/07/2020 19:12

I have my certificate and a couple of textbooks. My field of study is fast moving though so a bunch of my notes were already out of date by the time I recycled them (over 5 years ago!)

dayslikethese1 · 12/07/2020 19:16

I recycled all the notes about 6 months after graduating. Kept my dissertation and a few essays I was proud of and some books I'd bought for it. And my certificate obviously!

dayslikethese1 · 12/07/2020 19:17

I find it highly unlikely that anyone would sit and read through their lecture notes years later tbh Grin

isadoradancing123 · 12/07/2020 20:24

Just keep the dissertation, chuck the rest

Di11y · 12/07/2020 20:42

Kept dissertation and certificate and a couple of textbooks. Everything else went
