We have one every week without fail. I'd like to get to once a fortnight but we can never manage it! Money isn't a super issue, but I think it would be healthier to go less often. If you've done it, how did you manage to have less takeaway / none anymore?

We don’t have any because we live so remote that no one delivers here. There’s a McDonald’s 23 miles away but they don’t deliver this far. Everything else is 75 miles away. Eventually you lose the taste for it.

Is once a wk really that bad? We do that too but I find the portions are so big it feeds us for 2 meals so the cost isn't so bad when you look at it like that.

Pixxie7 · 13/07/2020 04:21

Start putting the money you would normally spend and buy or do something ridiculously expensive.

MuseumOfYou · 13/07/2020 04:26

Move to a village 10 miles from the nearest takeaway - worked for us. Sad

thisstooshallpass · 13/07/2020 04:31

I became disappointed with all kinds of takeaway. I'd rather make it (better) myself.

BitOfFun · 13/07/2020 04:54

Start a new habit together like both cooking a romantic meal together?

sashh · 13/07/2020 06:02

I've recently discovered Iceland's take away food, I've only had the chines so far, the duck and pancakes were excellent, I did have to add cucumber and spring onion but it was as good as the take away.

The only thing I don't like is the chilli sauce is made with tomato ketchup, so I have a jar of sweet chilli sauce in the fridge.

Disclaimer I do not work for Iceland.

Simply Cook spice boxes. The meals take 20 minutes to cook and have all been delicious. We all agreed that they were much nicer than takeaways!

notanothertakeway that’s really cheeky giving your invite code on here so you can get money off when people sign up! I’m on simply cook subscription too and wouldn’t use mumsnet to get money off my things. That’s really cheeky making it sound like you doing a favour when actually you’ll be getting money off

notanothertakeaway · 13/07/2020 17:48

@anon2215 I think most people would realise that the code is a win / win ie they get a free box, and so do I. That's standard for these kind of subscription services. Also, if someone tried a box but didn't like it, then they can cancel the subscription immediately

I was actually trying to be helpful, but have asked MN to delete my post in case other people thought it was cheeky

TazSyd · 13/07/2020 17:50

@anon2215

What’s cheeky about it?

I think offering someone a free box is a nice thing to do.

So what if @notanothertakeaway gets a free box too.

Weird.

notanothertakeaway · 13/07/2020 17:55

Thanks @TazSyd I also thought it was a nice thing to do, especially on a thread about someone trying to cut down on takeaways!

TazSyd · 13/07/2020 18:26

@notanothertakeaway

To me, both you and an internet stranger get a free box of food. I can’t see what’s so wrong with that.

I signed up to my energy co using a link someone shared on here. We both got a discount on that month’s energy bill.

SauvignonBlanketyBlank · 13/07/2020 18:32

If I'm pissed I always get takeaway.I can only them give up if I don't drink

Justgorgeous · 13/07/2020 18:35

Haven’t had a takeaway in 2 years or more now. Kids love cooking and although I like the idea I always find them disappointing when they arrive. I would also never use Ubereats or whatever their delivery service is after seeing a driver picking his nose and eating it before he set off on his bike. Grim.
