Have I buggered up my fridge freezer?

Anyone out there who knows about these things? Confused
A couple of weeks ago, I bought a secondhand Beko fridge-freezer. It worked a treat, until the other night when one of my bloody annoying children didn't close the freezer door quite properly. I didn't realise until the morning. It wasn't fully open, but only slightly so. I closed it over and thought no more about it.
Next day (yesterday) I bought some ice pops and put them in the ice tray. They didn't freeze at all. Everything else still felt reasonably frozen, except for the ice-cream, which I've chucked.
This morning they still hadn't frozen and the ice-cubes I'd made were only semi frozen.
I felt the compressor at the back, and it was hot (which I'm guessing is a good thing!). No ice on the coils at the back. Again, good. The freezer fan was still going round.
What I ought to have done was just bloody leave it. But, oh no, not me Hmm
So I switched the appliance off, for 20 minutes. Took the freezer drawers out. Then switched it on again and popped everything back in. I thought this might give it a bit of a reset ... Blush
The freezer fan started up again, and I thought it would be ok. But now it seems dead.
I've been an idiot, as I've probably wasted food, not to mention the fridge freezer itself.
Is there any chance that it might kick in again? Is there any hope?!
Thanks Smile

Do you really want to risk worrying about it all the time? You can get freezers for almost free (I got one for nothing). Maybe someone knew this didnt work when they sold it.
Unless it's got iced up and doors not closing?
Bad luck though.

Well, yes, as a single parent it does worry me. As do other things that go wrong in the flat too. I'm not an anxious person usually, but things breaking down - and the hassle and expense of dealing with it - do give me angst. More than it should, I'll grant you Grin But then it can be hard when you're the only one dealing with things.
No freebies in my neck of the woods, unfortunately (unless it's for scrap or repair), but it's a good thought nonetheless.
I guess I was hoping to hear from someone else who has fucked up in a similar way, and have the situation come good!?

Don't blame yourself though, turning something off should not break it. Where I live there is a Facebook group for name of city mums. People post all the time asking for stuff. Is it worth a try. I got mine by doing a post online at work..I was given it as someone getting a new integrated one.

@CottonSock
Thanks. I probably am too hard on myself. I suspect the freezer door being left open meant that the freezer had to work too hard, so conked out. I'm no expert though ...
It's just annoying to have made it worse, when it was 'sort of' operating normally before.
I'll probably laugh at the ridiculousness of my post in a week or two!
Thanks for the suggestions.
