My husband called me to tell me off for yet again getting it wrong. Quite common really.... I've ordered a replacement tyre Goodyear perf 2 whilst my other tyre is Goodyear perf (not 2). Same size and specs as far as I know. Please help if you think it's not that big deal as he lets on?

The number of people who can't even feel how their tyres are performing is mind blowing. I commented at work that I'd had a certain tyre on the car and they were just awful. People asked me how I could tell? Confused You should be able to feel when your car is gripping the road well or not. Perhaps it comes from years of driving on gravel and black soil ie slipperier surfaces than bitumen - you learn to feel what the car is doing.

You always put the new tyres on rear except where a staggered setup prevents this.

Or if you have a tyre pressure monitoring system.

@Elai1978

Oh god you went to kwik fit, please never ever trust them with your car.

I agree wholeheartedly! You can’t get shitter than Kwik Fit fitter!

This. Absolutely.

(Although it can depend on the branch to be fair. My local one was utterly shit and a rip off merchant)

@Gobbycop

Lots of nonsense here.

It's not essential to have same tread pattern ect on the same axel, hardly anyone would tell if they're different.
If it was important or a matter of safety it would be a requirement by law.

Also why would you put the better tyres to the rear? Would you do that on a front wheel drive car, don't think so.

I wouldn't risk it with tyres. If you're braking sharply in the wet you want both tyres on the axle to perform identically, or as close as possible. So I wouldn't mix and match.

You can argue that it's the same spec tyre just with a 2 on it, but I say that if they were exactly the same then it wouldn't need a 2 on it.

Or if you have a tyre pressure monitoring system.

Not really, depending on the type of TPMS the system may need to be reset if you put the rear wheels on the front and vice versa. If you don’t want to do that then you can just switch the tyres round.

Actually decided to change the second tyre too so will do that tomorrow and will keep this new tyre and will match it when I change (as nearly new). Better be safe. But annoyed not to have won the argument!
