I am a keyworker so DCs have been at school the whole time with various teachers, I really appreciate what they have done but dont know how to show it. What gift did you love to receive to receive or what would you love to get but never have.

I isually give them a costa gift card to get a coffee and cake on us but seems pointless at the minute when you cant go inside

I don't really like getting gifts, I'm just doing my job. Words of appreciation mean a lot, a nice card with a personal message makes me cry! However, the best gift are the classics. Flowers, chocolates, wine. I love coming home at the end of term with these!

As a teacher - I really like a nice card or a drawing by your children. They are always appreciated just as much as a gift.
If you wanted to do a gift then maybe a box of biscuits for the staff room for Sept when we need a treat mid morning.
I also think as your a key worker - you are probably exhausted so please don't worry about gifts etc. Very kind of you but no teacher will think badly of you if you don't.

Scarby9 · 12/07/2020 08:14

Honestly, a card or note saying thank you is what is most appreciated.

eyeoresancerre · 12/07/2020 08:14

Cross - posted but we both say cards or kind words are the nicest!

bettsbattenburg · 12/07/2020 08:16

A card or drawing from your child is what I really value. if you really think I've gone above and beyond then an email to the head teacher is always appreciated.

PurpleFlower1983 · 12/07/2020 08:16

A card with nice words is the best!

Theimpossiblegirl · 12/07/2020 08:17

It's lovely that you want to die your appreciation. A Costa gift card wouldn't be wasted, they are gradually reopening.

Milssofadoesntreallyfit · 12/07/2020 08:22

Ring them and thank them or drop them a nice letter or email. It doesn't have to cost anything at all and the personal thanks will mean more.
I do this an also prefer it rather than the thanks being given hiding behind a well meaning gift which may not be any use at all.

Realityofsen · 12/07/2020 08:28

I've got my daughter's 1-1, teacher and the other staff member who works closest with her a bottle of prosecco each (did some digging to check they drink), some chocolates and then she's drawn each of them a picture and I've written on the back some of the things DD has said about them. My DD isn't the easiest by far so wanted to do something to say thank you.

WoWsers16 · 12/07/2020 08:29

I would love cards and pictures too - however a gift card is a great idea- I wouldn't do costa (personally I don't like hot drinks ) one year a class clubbed together and got me one of those post office gift cards that you can use in over 100 shops which was really kind x

It’s really lovely that you want to show your appreciation, however be aware that some schools, including the one I’m at, are refusing gifts this year due to the circumstances. An email would be perfect and very much appreciated!

Happymum12345 · 12/07/2020 08:41

Wine, chocolates, flowers, gift cards -anything!

FinallyRelief · 12/07/2020 08:52

I'm not a teacher but organised collections in the past - it seems to be the done things at our school so hard not to.

Generally we do a collection about £5 each and then I'll buy prosecco - chocs and get the kids to write a little note that I'll stick in a card - with what's left over I get the post office gift card

Goes down well. Just a lot to organise

Second this. Our school have sent an email out to say please no gifts at the end of term due to the current situation.
1Morewineplease · 12/07/2020 09:15

Our school has also sent an email saying no to gifts at this time.

At our school we tend to give the teachers John Lewis Gift Vouchers. Lost parents in a class contribute around £10 each. The teacher can end up with a nice little amount.
