Handing in notice Aug school support worker

I am a support worker in a school and have been working from home during pandemic. When I go back my job position has completely changed and with no discussion. I feel very upset and anxious because my SLT have given me everything they know I would be uncomfortable with and other staff have told me it's a private joke now laughed about at school amongst themselves. I have decided to hand my notice in. If I hand it in at the start of August, will I get Sept pay? Or should I hand it in at the end of July. My contract is a months notice. :(

I'm in the same position as you op. I have told school I'm leaving but I'm not handing in my notice until 1st August. Regarding no jobs available, all support staff only need to give a month's notice so there is normally a number of jobs up for grabs in August. Certainly in my neck of the woods anyway.

They really are bullies and very unpleasant. Tittering and little comments.
This is what I was unsure about handing in notice tomorrow or 1st August? I just did not know what would work out best for being paid. I'm sorry to hear you are going through this too😞

Do you know for sure that this 'private joke' actually exists. it may just be gossip? Have you spoken to the SLT about your new responsibilities? All schools are having to make huge changes to how they operate, personally I would give it half a term rather than cutting off my nose to spite my face. It would give you a few weeks income while you look for something else.

Yes I've had the changes in writing. It really isnt a nice place to be, hence lots of staff leaving even with nothing to go to and then they found new jobs. I get that lots of changes have to be made but then their besties get all the good jobs and the few of us who are left get what's left. I'm not thinking its cutting my nose to spite my face if it means I am not depressed and anxious anymore Sad

If you're like me op, I have always enjoyed going into school and let's face it we don't do it for the money or career prospects, and the thought of going in knowing what new duties await it just isn't worth it. To others it might be a small thing to get upset over but if Covid's taught me anything it's that life's too short to be unhappy. Your situation sounds horrible and you're doing the right thing. One reason I'm not handing my notice in until 1st August is I want to get my maximum weeks of NI contributions on record. I'm over 60 and don't want to find out when I'm 66 that I'm a few weeks short so won't be entitled to my full state pension!

@Mostpeculiar

Yes pretty sure no such thing as months notice with term time support jobs I remember leaving mine and not getting the money I’d hoped for
This is not true.

Op, Give one month’s notice. Check your contract first.

Amiepop · 12/07/2020 23:41

All very true. It most certainly isnt for the money. I've kept a bit aside because I was hoping to go on holiday this year but think that it will really help out now. Covid has really made me see what is important and what isnt and the work situation sounds petty when you arent there but when you are experiencing it as you know, it's sad and tough. I love working with the children. Somewhere else will definitely be better for me though. I wish you the best.

I have to give one months notice for mine. Originally thought that if I resigned as of 1st Aug I would get paid for Sept but lots say no and they didnt get it.

Villanemme · 13/07/2020 07:08

No, you will get paid until the end of August. Good luck with the job hunting and hope your new colleagues are as lovely as mine. They're the only thing I'm going to miss!

Thanks. I hope so too 😊
