Surrogate's medical bills

What are they in the uk?
I know paid surrogacy is illegal in the uk but you can have someone be a surrogate for free but pay their medical bills.
But with the nhs, what are these?
What might potential parents be expected to pay for?
Thanks!

No medical bills would normally be incurred for the surrogate beyond the cost of the IVF/procedure, provided the (gestational) mother is eligible for free NHS care themselves. You say 'paid surrogacy' and this is a nuanced term, while surrogacy for profit is not allowed in the UK, I understand there have been court cases confirming the payment of 'expenses' up to (for me) a surprising level.

Hope this one loads. I couldn't get it to open but I know it's a legit site.

From what I know from a colleague who had a surrogate, he realised that the generally expected etiquette is an expectation of private healthcare for the full pregnancy, birth and check ups afterward. I think this makes it easier in terms of the surrogacy not becoming a matter of discussion, and more privacy. Travel expenses can get expensive too, as can maternity clothes, vitamins, any changes to their diet, lost wages.

If the surrogate is on bed rest, or especially closer to the end of the pregnancy, a housekeeper. It’s also advisable to have a psychologist for everyone involved, which he couldn’t believe the cost of. I think often people use an agency in order to better manage the sheer time associated with sorting all of these things out.

Have seen the other end of the spectrum from Sergei's in an NHS GP practice. Perhaps it depends to some extent on the circumstances, motivations and expectations of the surrogate (and genetic parents).
