Hi, Not really an AIBU but didn't know where else to go, so sorry if I'm wrong....

Anyway, I have just received some Evouchers for school lunches, Does anyone know how long you get to spend them before they expire please?
I applied for free school dinners as I am currently out of work, but didn't think I would receive anything til DS went back to school in (fingers crossed) September, and I have just done a big shop so don't actually need anything for a while. Can anyone help please?

TIA

It normally says on the bottom I think it's a year.

ineedaholidaynow · 11/07/2020 09:56

I assume you will get them through the summer holidays as well, if you are in England

Thanks, I can't see it though. All I can see on the email is that I have to redeem the redemption code within a month. I'll pop in to Tesco and ask them, Thanks anyway.

Click on the code to redeem and it will show you supermarket options. Each one has it's own terms and conditions eg how long the voucher lasts for. I use mine in aldi and they have an expiry date for 5 years after redemption.

Whywonttheyletmeusemyusername · 11/07/2020 10:21

I think its 24 months

TeanAndChocolateBiscuits · 11/07/2020 10:28

Thanks everyone, I will probably use them within a month or so anyway, just wanted to check they didn't expire after a month. Grin

This is the info from our school about these vouchers. Says the ones issued in July expire at the end of the month

Correction - must be used within a month not by the end of the month

Hi, You only have a month to redeem the code to get the vouchers, once you have downloaded the voucher, I think, from what PP's have said on here, you can have upto 5 years to spend them depending on store, Asda, for example, give you 24 months.

This is from Eden Red, I took a screenshot when I redeemed today's vouchers. The 1 month deadline is solely for using your emailed redemption code one eden red's site ie converting the code into a gift card

Thanks @somedayillbesaturdaynite
Just 1 more question (maybe...Grin ) How do the supermarkets do it? So, I understand the vouchers are to be used for DC lunches, I normally do my shop online, would I have to do a separate order for lunch items, or can i order everything I need in one go and the lunch stuff will be separated so I pay separately for them or will the voucher amount just come off the whole total of the shopping? Also, If i use them in store, do I have to separate items there too? ie lunch stuff and normal dinners/snacks/kitchen cleaner/shampoo etc?

Everything just gets paid for together. I normally do the first weeks full shop with them and then pay normally again the weeks after, until the next lot of vouchers.

Givingup123456 · 14/07/2020 11:13

Tesco don't accept the vouchers online. You need to read each supermarkets terms and conditions

somedayillbesaturdaynite · 14/07/2020 17:24

Pay altogether, never had an issue buying general household items (fairy liquid/washing powder/toiletries). There are exclusions eg alcohol and tobacco, those are best bought separately to a transaction paid for with vouchers. I'm teetotal so I don't know what would happen if say you had a £60 shop including your a bottle of wine and paid £15 towards the bill with a voucher.

OneUsernameOnly · 14/07/2020 17:39

Sainsbury’s and Tesco just take the voucher amount off your bill - they don’t care if you buy age restricted items. Essentially you have bought a gift card and can spend it on what you want.

TeanAndChocolateBiscuits · 14/07/2020 17:59

Just one more thing, I have a download barcode/ecode that I am to scan at the till, If I don't spend the full amount, does what I have left over stay on the "code" or is the code wiped to zero? (If that makes sense?)

It stays on the giftcard/voucher and you can use it next time. One tip, Internet connection is often dodgy in supermarkets - take a screenshot of the voucher in case you can't connect at the checkout. I find it a useful way to track because I delete the screenshot once that voucher is used up.

That's a good idea,

Thank you
