Devastated over burnt crackers.

It was my first time baking crackers today. I had some cheese and decided to bake some crackers to go along with it.
The first batch was lovely, nice and crunchy and smelt really good, but they just weren't enough and the shape was too thin.
So I popped in some more dough, sliced them in squares and waited ten minutes to go and check.
Ten minutes passed...
And then fifteen...
Twenty minutes....
Thirty....
Shock
The crackers!
I rushed into my kitchen, terrified yet curious at the sight that i was about to see.
Completely blackened, disgusting, smelly crackers.
Still in their perfect shape Sad
Aibu to be devastated at myself? I thought they'd turn out so well. I made the dough with so much love, adding herbs and checking the oven every few minutes.
And now I only have a couple of measly crackers left Sad
What do I do?

I hate it when I burn things :( I feel your pain.
But you've inspired me to try baking crackers, which I've never done.

Ijustwantedafringe36 · 10/07/2020 15:20

I would definitely recommend baking your own crackersSmile Turned out a bit like pie crust with the texture but are very moreishGrin

I'd still eat them! I love cold, burnt toast with lots of butter. Crackers will be even better.
DH says it's carcinogenic, but I'll take my chances. Probably only burn toast once a year anyway.

Ijustwantedafringe36 · 10/07/2020 15:22

I already chucked them in the bin after posting Blush

Ijustwantedafringe36 · 10/07/2020 15:26

You can go fish them out of the bin and enjoy them with some lovely butter Grin

Ooooh they sound nice. Well, the unburnt ones do. What is the recipe?

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 10/07/2020 15:31

LTB (leave the biscuits).

I feel your pain, though. One Christmas, I soaked the fruit for the Christmas cake in brandy for weeks before making the cake - and then out the cake in the oven at too high a temperature and without the protective collar of paper you are supposed to put round it, and didn’t realise until it was carbon. Not just the odd burnt bit that I could have trimmed off - ohhh no! If I’d trimmed off all the burnt bits, I’d have ended up wit a cupcake.

Ijustwantedafringe36 · 10/07/2020 15:35

For the recipe I just sort of winged the measurements, but it was:
Flour in a bowl
Herbs (I added some dried rosemary and a bit of cumin but didnt add much)
Some honey
Oil and water
Mix that
Roll into flat dough on a baking sheet and cut very lightly so you can snap it Smile

Thanks! I am thinking cheese and crackers, and a glass of wine might be a nice way to end the week. Or maybe even cheese in the crackers...

Your burnt crackers have made me happy! Make yourself some more and join me in a glass of wine this evening Wine
