That I’ve not paid any NI contributions for last year so not eligible for JSA (I have been made redundant)

Despite being in employment and earning £24k per ann for last two years. HowEver, very small company and I’m wondering whether this means that my employer hasn’t been paying my contributions? Certainly my pay slips say the contributions have been made!

Any guidance would be appreciated. Many thanks

Can you go on line to the direct gov website and check your individual tax payments?

HoneysuckIejasmine · 10/07/2020 13:14

If you have a your payslips, I'd give HMRC a ring to discuss it. They generally are very helpful.

magicmallow · 10/07/2020 13:14

sounds like an error. Give HMRC a call to clarify.

BankofNook · 10/07/2020 13:17

They may not have been allocated to the correct year, it happened to me when I was trying to sort out my Class 3s and they had assigned them to the previous tax year so I got a letter from Maternity Allowance saying I hadn't paid any. It was really easy to fix, quick phone call to HMRC and they sorted it all out.

Don't worry, OP. It could be a systems error and the payments have been made (HMRC have form) but not allocated to the correct taxpayer account. Equally, it's not impossible there's been an administrative error or fraud. To some extent, it's not your problem, especially as you've been made redundant so don't have an incentive to protect your employer from any mistakes or misdeeds. Call HMRC as a PP suggested. As well as the JSA payment, you'll want to check your NI 'years' for state pension are tallied once the administration has caught up. Good for you for keeping your payslips (and P60s and P45?).

Good luck.

Have you had a look on your government'Gateway'?

The contributions may not be in the right years to qualify, OP.

The "relevant years" are the last 2 full tax years preceding the benefit year in which the claim starts. Benefit years run Jan-Dec, so the two relevant years are the tax years 2017/18 and 2018/19. Any contributions paid after 6/4/19 won't count towards a claim starting now.

OP as long as you have payslips and/or P60 showing NI has been deducted all you need to do is contact HMRC. They will update your record this is irrespective of whether your employer has passed the payments to HMRC.

EatsShootsAndRuns · 10/07/2020 14:14

Reckon it's what @LakieLady said.

Piffle11 · 10/07/2020 14:16

Like @LakieLady said - Depends what two years they are taking into consideration for your contributions. Could be preceding your two-year employment. Would you qualify for income based allowance? They only look at the contributions for contribution-based allowances.
