FM - is it an MLM?

As the title says really....posting here for traffic.

Has anyone heard of FM_by..... (insert seller's name), it is perfume and aftershave that is supposed to smell exactly like the real thing, but for a fraction of the price.
My goddaughter has recently started selling it, her fb feed is full of it and how good it is, and it maybe is, I haven't smelt it, but I'm worried it is some sort of MLM and she is getting sucked in. I don't know how much it has cost her to get started. AIBU to be worried?

My Facebook is full of these fake perfume sellers all of a sudden. Sure they must be.

Yes it’s an mlm. I bought a bottle from a friend and it’s ok but so strong and just gets more potent over time. One spray and someone across an office can taste it!

ComDummings · 10/07/2020 10:50

Yep another MLM

beautifulxdisasters · 10/07/2020 10:54

Yes it's an MLM. I think they do cosmetics too (or used to?).

How old is your goddaughter OP?

Lyricallie · 10/07/2020 10:55

Yea fairly certain it is. There's a anti-mlm group on Facebook that has an up to date list of them. Might be worth checking on there.

bee222 · 10/07/2020 10:58

Definitely MLM. A few of my friends got into this. They were trying to get us all to sign up to be part of their down line. The perfumes and makeup are not great.

popsydoodle4444 · 10/07/2020 11:05

Yes it's a MLM.

I work in the MLM industry.Every man and his dog is a FM rep. They draw people in with their "free to join" thing.

zingally · 10/07/2020 11:17

Yes, I've seen them springing up recently on my local FB groups.

Never seem to get a sniff (if you'll forgive the pun) of interest.

I hadn't really appreciated it was a MLM, but it likely is. My thoughts ran to "cheap knock-offs from eastern Europe/China."

Very, VERY few people make any real money from MLM. I've had countless friends try different things, and they've NEVER lasted more than a year. One friend must have tried 5 or 6 different things now. Last I heard, she was selling teas... But I haven't seen any of that lately, so it might be the latest to bite the dust!
Usually, only the people at the very top, or who manage to recruit a lot of sellers under them, make an sort of regular decent income. Everyone else barely makes pocket money not worth the effort, of they end up out of pocket with a lot of stock they can't shift.

OP, your god-daughter would be much better off getting a "regular" job. These MLM schemes dress themselves up all pretty, and claim to be great earners, and wonderful companies to work for. But usually it's because they can't get their product into physical shops, but still want to be seen as legitimate producers. They are scammy in the extreme.

Yes it is an MLM. Using this pandemic to target even more vulnerable people to join.

Sugarplumfairy65 · 10/07/2020 11:19

Yes. It's MLM. Like all of them, the only people who make good money are those at the top.
It isn't fake perfume though as someone said earlier. Its real perfume made with the same synthetic fragrance ingredients as well known perfumes. People call them fake because they make copies of well known perfumes.

Thanks everyone, you've confirmed my suspicions! She's 26, has a little boy, works part-time and, I suppose, saw this as a chance to make money....she didn't tell any of us she was going to do it, first thing we knew was when she started trying to sell it.
