...to think we have to pay twice?

We've just had a new shower - which we purchased - fitted by a plumber we've used before and who we've had no issues with.

The start button doesn't work properly. I have contacted the company for a replacement part.

We have already paid the plumber for the original work. Do we have to pay him again as I am assuming that a) he will need to be paid again as this wasn't his fault and b) the product manufacturers won't pay for fitting costs?

Advice welcome and AIBU to think it's not fair we have to pay for something that's not our fault? Angry

It’s not the plumbers fault either so why should he do the work for free? He’s not a charity case. Saying that if he’s done work for you before he may decide to charge a lesser rate.

Yes you'd have to pay the plumber, it's not his fault and he'd be using his time to do it. If it's a quick job he might not charge you, but that entirely his discretion.

You would not be unreasonable to request the company reimburse you for that charge as it's a faulty part.

Assuming the button is part of the product manufacturer should pay to have it fitted, ie pay to fix the product. If it's just a button in the wall and could theoretically have been tested before fitting then i think you have to pay twice.

Just to make clear, I think the plumber should be paid, it definitely isn't his fault. The button worked at first but now doesn't so none of us knew for a day or two.

I think the manufacturer should pay but am guessing they won't!

Depending on the manufacturer they may send one of their techs to do the repair, Triton certainly do.

CoRhona · 09/07/2020 22:28

@R1R2 that would be a great solution!

very unlikely. I had a light that didn't work from b&q. No way to no until after the electrician fitted it. They exchanged the light but would not pay for the electrician to fit another one. Its unfair but they don't have a legal obligation to.
