To consider an abroad holiday this summer?

We heard yesterday that our holiday booked for a couple of weeks time has been cancelled. This is fine, we anticipated it would be.
However, the holiday company have offered us a fairly decent discount to travel on different dates (end of July) rather than take the refund.
My reaction was to just take the cash and forget an abroad holiday this year. But DH wants to go.
We've been in contact with the hotel, it's somewhere we've stayed several times before. They are reopening at a much reduced occupancy with only part of the hotel opening (but all pools and facilities will be open). They say the only difference will be "a much quieter holiday with fewer neighbours!". Which obviously is appealing.
It's to the Balearics and there is no quarantine either side. My main worry though is the flights and also lack of insurance cover for anything Covid-19 related (more travel disruption than medical care as E111 cards still valid till end of year).
As much as I love the idea of a quiet week by the pool/beach, I'm just not convinced it feels like it's worth it. DH thinks it wouldn't be any worse than taking the UK break we were looking at as an alternative, which actually might be busier.
What would you do? Thanks in advance for any advice.

Go for it - I'm off on a flight tomorrow - looks like you are covered and no quarantine issues - take the discount, you won't be able to moan about over priced summer holidays again if you don't!

Theres no difference one you're there but the difference is being on a plane to travel to and from with other people you do not know sharing the same air.

I wouldn't, but I am risk averse. What if where you stay goes into lockdown while you are there, or if where you live goes into lockdown just before you go?

If I wasn’t in an at risk group I’d be off on a holiday to Sitges on Saturday ☹️

Thanks, yes it is the flights I think that are my main concern. My DC 4 and 11 would both have to also wear masks and not sure how that would go down.
Also the worry that if one of us tested for a high temperature then none of us would be allowed to fly. So the concern is potentially getting stuck out there or not getting there in the first place.
So hard to know what to do but think I'm leaning towards not going.

I would OP, in fact I am on a flight next Wed and also currently looking for something else to replace our 3 week trip to the USA in Sept.

coffeetime11 · 09/07/2020 14:05

I'd go. Just remember masks for the plane journey.

FizzyPink · 09/07/2020 14:08

I’d go, we’ve just booked a break for mid-August. I can’t see how after the plane it’s any different to a week of getting out and about in the UK

My only concern would be the travel and would your younger child be ok wearing a mask? However, the Balearics are a nice short flight. Once you're there, a less busy resort sounds really appealing.
