To feel bereft now I've finished Downton Abbey?

I had never seen it before. I've worked my way through it during lockdown and finished it today. It's THE BEST THING EVER.

I can't believe I am so late to the party. I also can't believe how much I loved the characters and how sad I am now that it's over. I feel like I do when I've just finished a great book!

I've got the film to watch, but what should I move on to next?

Dunno, why not try multiple threads exactly the same?

@EatsShootsAndRuns

Dunno, why not try multiple threads exactly the same?

You beat me to it!

Thewoodstar · 08/07/2020 21:33

That so funny. I feel exactly the same when I Finnish a good series or book. It’s horrible , like the end of an era. I still get it everytime I Finnish the last Harry Potter book 😁
Not sure what to suggest after Downton Abbey. It’s seriously compelling.
The Crown in Netflix is quite good if you want a period drama

hermyweasley · 08/07/2020 21:36

It said thread failed! So I clicked post again Blush

Handmaid's Tale. It's the logical progression. 😉

PippinMeriadoc · 08/07/2020 21:43

I could have posted this last week! In fact I posted a very similar statement on my Facebook!

sitckmansladylove · 08/07/2020 21:47

I haven't watched it yet so I much do that. Ann with an E is good (netflix) The Crown also good

DressingGownofDoom · 08/07/2020 21:47

Aw I was the same when Downton finished on Telly. Poldark is the same kind of idea. Outlander is like Scottish Poldark. Victoria and Vanity Fair both worth a watch.

Juke1 · 08/07/2020 21:51

I felt exactly the same! Have you watched the film?

I felt very similar about Call the Midwife, that’s all on iPlayer so that would be a good one to move onto if you’ve not seen it already. Very similar in that you feel you’re friends with all the characters!

lanthanum · 08/07/2020 21:54

I'm on about my third go through Downton, this time watching with DD (13). I might go back to the beginning of Call the Midwife afterwards, too.

Leafs123 · 08/07/2020 22:05

I could have written this post myself op!

Watched the final episode last night and my afternoon felt empty today Grin

I can thoroughly recommend a bit of father brown for some easy watching.

Planning the film for this weekend.

I can not believe i fell into the downton hole!! How many hours of my life have i lost to it in the last 3 months?

Whatelsecouldibecalled · 08/07/2020 22:08

YANBU it’s amazing!

Agree with pp try handmaids tale next

Katrinawaves · 08/07/2020 22:10

Upstairs Downstairs with Keeley Hawes has a similar vibe as does Victoria.

Juo · 08/07/2020 22:12

I have 4 episodes left. I started watching last October when I was quite ill and have rationed it out ever since.
I've always sworn I hate period drama but this has changed my mind.
I second Father Brown which I love and there are about 100 episodes, I have 50 left to watch Smile.

TheVanguardSix · 08/07/2020 22:13

Breaking Bad. Just belly flop into the deep end. Hit that water with a SMACK! Grin
I May Destroy You... another 'crack your head wide open' suggestion.

OK, on a realistic note: You could try the Belgravia series (Julian Fellowes). Admittedly, I haven't seen it.
Peaky Blinders?

CurlyhairedAssassin · 08/07/2020 22:13

Ah I felt like that too, although I watched it when it was originally on. I was late to the party with Game of Thrones and watched it all over the Christmas holidays. I must have spent whole days watching that, felt so sad when it was finished and there was nothing new to discover.

Nodney · 08/07/2020 22:16

Julian Fellows also wrote An English Game which is on Netflix at the moment. It is about the history of football and was v good. I didn't think I would like it as Im not a football fan but it was brilliant and not just about football. I'm a massive Downton fan too.

TigerBilly · 08/07/2020 22:19

The new Eurovision film has Dan Stevens (Matthew Crawley) in it and he is absolutely amazing in it. Completely different role but he smashes it out the park as the Russian Eurovision entrant.

echt · 08/07/2020 22:21

Try Brassic. A six-parter with a superb playlist. Oh, and excellent fun/dramatic storylines.

SeasonallySnowyPeasant · 08/07/2020 22:48

Belgravia: another Julian Fellowes series and pretty good.

girlofthenorth · 08/07/2020 22:57

Outlander every time , very bingeworthy .

QuestionableMouse · 08/07/2020 22:59

I've just started rewatching it.

Have you seen the movie?
