Anyone know when I can start running my dance classes again? Or any ideas for how I can still run them while following all guidelines?

No one knows the answer to that except maybe the government! Nothing has been said yet.

Lockheart · 08/07/2020 18:32

You need to look at government guidelines, not ask Am I Being Unreasonable.

I have and the only idea I have is to run them outside and have the children stood apart from each other but that doesn't work because if it rains or anything.

Football and rugby training can happen with physical contact but not dance classes!

DD is doing dance classes via zoom with her teacher and has been since lockdown began. They have even done their ballet exams via zoom. Maybe you could try this?

DanceKatie · 08/07/2020 18:37

@samsonthecat

We are doing that but loads can't join in due to poor wifi or not having enough devices it others are using them etc.

I would love my kids dance classes to restart... I guess it will be a while as school bubbles won't work with activity bubbles... My daughter has one class a week on zoom which is great but not the same as being in the studio.

DanceKatie · 08/07/2020 18:39

@Gizlotsmum

Thats the problem is not being in the studio. I have considered outside but not possible due to if it suddenly starts raining etc.

The Government guidance on out of school settings says:
“As the Prime Minister confirmed in his announcement on 23 June, providers who run community activities, holiday clubs, after-school clubs, tuition and other out-of-school provision for children will be able to operate over the summer holiday with safety measures in place. Adjustments to the current measures for these providers are part of Step 3 of the government’s recovery strategy (from 4 July). Children will be able to attend settings such as tuition and learning centres, extracurricular clubs (such as ballet classes, gymnastics training, football coaching), uniformed youth organisations (such as Scouts and Guides), supplementary schools, private language schools and religious settings offering education (for example madrassahs, yeshivas, and Sunday schools).”

It’s here: www.gov.uk/government/publications/guidance-for-parents-and-carers-of-children-attending-out-of-school-settings-during-the-coronavirus-covid-19-outbreak/guidance-for-parents-and-carers-of-children-attending-out-of-school-settings-during-the-coronavirus-covid-19-outbreak

What it doesn’t say is what the safety measures should be.

@ThroughThoroughThoughTough

Will have a look through that.
Thanks.

Was going to link to the same guidance. My DDs dance school is planning a summer school and then returning to normal lessons in September.

DanceKatie · 08/07/2020 18:43

@Seeline

We do 'dance camps' during school holidays so will be running that during the summer holidays.

My daughter's dance school have started having classes outdoors on a weather permitting basis, if it's forecast to rain then they can transfer their fee/classes to one of the other classes for that week.

That's what I'm probably going to have to start to do fairly soon.

Just need to work out the details of it properly.

My dd is auditioning for a youth ballet, and they’re doing much smaller groups than usual so they can stay 2m apart in the audition (indoors), wiping down barres between sessions, turn up under-dressed and with hair done to minimise time there, chairs 2m apart to put their street clothes on, hand washing facilities, optional masks, no adults allowed in to the venue. I assume this is all within the rules, it seems sensible to me (apart from dancing in a mask, which I think is probably unpleasant).

SoupDragon · 08/07/2020 19:00

DD's classes are going to be scheduled 5 minutes apart so that one group can leave before the other enters and they are also going to be socially distanced. I imagine there will be extra cleaning but that hasn't been communicated (they mentioned "Staff training").

This assumes they are allowed back into the venues - otherwise they'll be back to Zoom classes.

chuffincold · 08/07/2020 21:29

Who is your governing body? (IDTA, RAD.....) they should be able to explain the current guidance to you.
Check your insurance before you do classes outdoors and make sure you have completed your risk assessments.
Be aware that distance for dance classes etc isn't as simple as keeping them 2m apart due to transitional movement.
Hard times for lots of activities but my advise is check check, risk assess and check
