To ask you about carpet fitting

Sorry - boring thread no. 2 from me today.

I had to move a load of furniture for the plumber today and I was thinking about getting my house carpeted as it desperately needs replacing upstairs.

I have three full bedrooms. How do I get it all carpeted??

Do I do each room separately and empty it for the carpet fitters so it takes 4 days (to include hallway and stairs)?

Or can I pay a bit more for them to do all the moving around and they can do it all in a day?

Do the beds have to come out?

It seems like such a faff but as we redecorate it’s becoming obvious how awful the carpet is.

I just don’t want to sound dim when I start calling places.

Thanks.

If you can find someone willing to do this then I would go with this. The company we tend to get carpets from don't offer this, even for extra money. So we have only ever done one room at a time and dismantling/moving/storing all the furniture is a mahoosive PITA.

Thank you - I’ll see what’s on offer.

It’ll be such an arse to get the beds out 😖

When I last had carpets fitted, they were happy for me to leave the sofas upended against a wall and do the room in 2 halves. That might be ok for beds.

I suppose you could hire a storage unit for a day or two to put the furniture in and sleep on blow-up mattresses or something, but that would still involve moving furniture.

Watching as need to do the same next year and wondering what the hell to do with the furniture, nothing useful to add

Actually when a John Lewis fitted our downstairs carpets we paid for them to move the very heavy sofas, iirc it was about £40 but I can’t remember if that was for one or two, a wardrobe is heavier and more awkward though, so it could cost a small fortune if there are a few bits in rooms

We did virtually our whole house over 2 days, half downstairs and half upstairs each day. We just stacked everything in each half to leave the other lot empty. We did leave a bed frame (bunk beds that wouldn't fit out the door without being dismantled) but took the mattresses off so it was light and easy to move, they were happy with that. We had the bathrooms all vinyled at the same time. We have a room plus hall and kitchen downstairs that are wooden floors and not being touched, that helped as we could stack anything not vital there until they were finished.

I'd get a fitter round and see what they think.
