I'm in the shit financially and the next few months is going to be a struggle financially. With rent, I'm on a rolling monthly contract. Private rent through an agency. I usually pay on 30th every month so say I gave my notice in 12 days before my rent is due, so 12 days short in the rental month, will my final rent payment be minus 12 days? Thanks.

No, that's not normally how it works. You will have to pay the full month unless you can negotiate otherwise with the landlord. No harm in asking, right?

I should add - if you are honest about your financial situation, they might think "oh well, better to get the keys back 12 days early so we can get ready for the new tenants rather than chase you for half a month's rent". But legally you would have to pay if they insisted on sticking to the contract- i assume you are on a standard AST?

Thank you for your replies. My landlord is selling up so I have no option but to go but could still potentially have another few months here. Financially though, it might just kill me unless I find work very soon. I've applied for every job going but I'm up against 300+ other applicants. It's insane. I'm looking at all my options but right now, none are particularly appealing.

I might be missing something but why can't you apply for UC (incl housing benefit) because you are out of work?
