Mobile hairdresser.

Posting here for traffic.

I've just started as a mobile hairdresser & would like to know what you would like from a mobile hairdresser that would make me stand out?

I currently have a tray and hose which makes hair washing similar to that of a salon.

Anything else you could add?

My mobile hairdresser has towels that are literally thread bare which I hate and she also brings any old shampoo and conditioner so I often go and get my own so I would say decent towels with absorbency!

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 07/07/2020 18:04

I wouldn't be that fussed by a tray and hose tbh, I liked having a mobile hairdresser so I could just wash my hair in the shower before she came.

I like good gowns, so you don't have hair all over your clothes at the end, and if you brought a sheet to put down on the floor to catch the cuttings that would be great. I used my own, but if you had one and took it away I would have less washing to do afterwards!

But tbh, it's really about how well you can cut and colour. I don't mind the 'limitations' of being in my own house rather than a salon if the result is good.

I usually go to my hairdressers house but she is mobile too, the one time she came to mine she didn't bring towels or shampoo, conditioner, heat defence spray etc.

I was a bit annoyed as you pay extra for the same service. The extra goes towards petrol but I still expect the same service so she should still provide the products in my opinion and the towel. I don't want to risk hair colour/bleach transferring onto my towels.

Mustbetimeforachange · 07/07/2020 18:09

I would be interested in your hygiene measures at the moment - clean gowns, masks etc etc. After all you would be going into their homes after being with lots of other people.

TumbledGlass · 07/07/2020 18:20

I stopped using a mobile hairdresser because she never arrived on time, always blaming being late on the traffic. Added to that she expected me to use my own towels, own shampoo, make us both a drink, sweep up, clean the sink etc.
No thanks.

Hygiene methods that make customers feel safe.

Mustbetimeforachange · 07/07/2020 18:51

We always wash our hair before she arrives, that doesn't bother me at all, it's the cut (& hygiene) that matter to me.

LaPoesieEstDansLaRue · 07/07/2020 18:56

I use a mobile hairdresser and have always used my own shampoo, conditioner, towel when she comes - actually never thought anything of it until reading this thread! She's very reasonably priced and does a good job which is all I'm really concerned about.

HazelBite · 07/07/2020 19:00

I think its reasonable to expect your clients to provide their own towels, mine asks me whether or not I wanted to use my own shampoo etc.
She provides all the colouring products, cape, uses her own hairdryer, and I leave out my broom and dustpan so she sweeps up after cutting.
You might want to take bags to put used foils in.

EveryDayIsADuvetDay · 07/07/2020 19:02

I take my own cowash and styling products when I go to a hairdresser, unless its one where I know they'll have sulphate and alcohol free products available.

I went last night, short, non frizzy, freshly cut hair Grin

EveryDayIsADuvetDay · 07/07/2020 19:06

pressed 'post' too soon!
Without high pressure sales techniques, offer discounts for introductions to other clients; or look at a site like treatwell - the best thing you can offer is a really good cut, if you can get others to recommend you, that's the best way to increase your client base.

Cuddling57 · 07/07/2020 19:17

Take your own mirror! I didn't continue booking with my mobile hairdresser as she never came with a mirror and I had to keep getting up to look in the bathroom mirror - crazy!

Cuddling57 · 07/07/2020 19:18

Sorry that was obviously meant to say 'she kept coming WITHOUT a mirror!'

Newkitchen123 · 07/07/2020 19:21

I have a mobile hairdresser
I keep an old towel for the dye
I use my own shampoo etc
She provides styling products
My floor is tiled so it's a two min clean up
She's been the same price for about ten years

Rubyandsaphire · 07/07/2020 19:24

Presuming they were good at the cutting etc.
Good cape,
On time,
Offer to sweep up (I'm disabled and struggle to sweep after she's been) I wouldn't even mind paying extra for the service,
Good communicater,
Hygienic,
And reasonable price (I'm not asking for cheap I'm willing to pay and understand there are still overheads but don't want to pay salon prices at home).
Mine does all these hence she's my hairdresser and is always very busy (have to book weeks in advance).

CandidaAlbicans2 · 07/07/2020 19:30

I always washed my own hair before my old mobile hairdresser arrived, and even if she had offered to do it I'd still prefer to do it myself as I don't enjoy being fussed over/the salon experience. The only thing that I think would've been better is if she'd brought her own mirror. I managed to set my own up but it was a bit of a faff and not ideal.

Summer41 · 07/07/2020 19:46

I have a mobile hairdresser and I always wash my own hair using my own products and provide my own towels. My hairdresser provides a cape and an old towel to go around my neck. She puts all her dirty equipment (dye bowl, dye brush etc) into a plastic bag and takes them home to clean at her house. She doesn't use my sink (she could if she wanted). I provide my own mirror (I just take it off my dressing table) and hoover up the cut hair myself.

At the moment, I would love it if you would be willing to cut my hair in the garden if it was a nice day, I have a gazebo to shelter us from the sun and an extension cable for the hair dryer although I would be happy to blow dry my hair myself (seeing as I'm not going anywhere or seeing anyone at the moment!). I'd just be very very grateful to get my roots dyed and my hair cut!

Redbrook · 07/07/2020 19:58

I use a mobile hairdresser; I wash my hair before she gets here, she provides a floor covering, clean towel & gown, and a large mirror. She clears up the cuttings.
Costs £20 for a cut & blow, she came yesterday (sporting a face mask) and did just a cut for £10.

Brilliant feedback guys. Thank you.
