To wish DH boss hadn’t mentioned redundancy.

DH has gotten home from work and announced that his manager has told him the business is looking to do redundancies.
There is so actual plan in place so I can’t get any more information and now I’m really worried, why couldn’t he have just kept his mouth shut until plans had be drawn up and questions could be answered?

My DH isn’t overly worried, he thinks his work record/secure job role should keep him pretty safe and even if the worst happened that he’d be able to find another job quite quickly.. but I think you never know, especially considering the current situation!
AIBU to be really pissed off at his manager, my DH is in a supervisory role and said they haven’t told many people, only him and the other supervisor. But surely you don’t say anything until you know what’s happening because redundancies really effect people’s lives!

Do you work op? Can you manage if he gets made redundant (worst case scenario) Or have savings?

YABU. It’s good for everyone to know the situation as soon as possible, so they have an idea of possible arrangements that may need to be made.

You can’t hide the truth from people because they or their partners might become anxious.

YABU and naive. Most people are probably wondering whether they will have a job in 6mths.

Okay happy to admit IABU. I honestly think I was mostly surprised. I wasn’t expecting redundancies at DH job, they’ve been busier than ever over lockdown and furloughed basically no one (only those that received the shielding letter and a couple members of staff that had major childcare issues). They’ve been announcing over lockdown how good profits have been, redundancies hadn’t even crossed my mind.

@Greydove28 I currently don’t work (am employed but on holiday then mat leave as due in 5 weeks) but will be returning to work, can’t survive on just my pay though, so DH will have to find something else if he is made redundant, I just worry that it’s not going to be easy to find another job at the moment.

If I was going to be made redundant, I'd rather know sooner than later. It is horrible news, but at least if gives you a chance to prepare.
