Found 2 year old son with a bit of mouldy chicken (he'd stashed it in his room somewhere) not sure if he's actually ate it or not! He's been really upset and unsettled and had a bad bout of diarrhoea but no sickness.. Waiting on a call back from gp for advice. My dh has started being really horrible accusing me that it's my fault I shouldn't feed him things in his bedroom.. I simply gave him a bit that I assumed he'd eat and not stash 😢 😢 help a panicked mum out plz

Your husband is a dickhead.

I hope your son is okay.

Lsquiggles · 07/07/2020 16:09

Just wait til you hear back from your gp, no point punishing yourself further, how could you have known he stashed it away? Hope he gets better soon Smile

PJmasksandwineplz · 07/07/2020 16:10

He's had calpol and is having a nap just now, I'm sure he'll be absolutely fine as he's smart and usually knows not to put anything near his mouth.

First things first, wait for the GP to call back and deal with the immediate situation.

Second, why is your DH on his high horse about this and being horrible? I don't see how its relevant where the food was fed to him. It is regrettable that it was mouldy but I assume it was an accident and that you didn't give it to him deliberately. Why is this your sole responsibility? Does he not also have some responsibility for this?

Unless you deliberately fed your child mouldy food you have a DH problem.

PJmasksandwineplz · 07/07/2020 16:11

I feel like the worse person ever! Hopefully they call soon, thank you x

He may already have pooed it out.
If he continues with diarrhoea and vomiting sickness more than 24 hours or seems very sick with fever take him in.
Otherwise gp is just going to advise fluids and paracetamol.

PJmasksandwineplz · 07/07/2020 16:12

It's a complete accident, I honestly thought he had ate it.

I wouldn't even have called the GP tbh. It's a watch and wait situation imo. Hopefully he hasn't consumed it, or certainly not much because it would taste rank. Why have you given him calpol?

PJmasksandwineplz · 07/07/2020 16:15

Because he seemed unsettled and sore when doing the toilet, so not sure if his stomach is sore

He'll be fine I'm sure. My eldest once grabbed a fresh dog poo when I wasn't looking (I'm sure he didn't put it in his mouth, but still). Then there was the sudocreme incident (he definitely did try and eat that). A few instance of bits of toast he had also 'stored for later, bleugh. He's still here!

Your husband is being an arse though.

Winterwoollies · 07/07/2020 16:15

Give him fluids and let him rest.

Not sure what the Calpol will do. It’s an analgesic for pain and fever. I wouldn’t take paracetamol for food poisoning.

LegitSnack · 07/07/2020 16:15

I'm sure I've read on here about a toddler drinking the stuff collected in the bottom of a loo roll holder.

I gave my son a brioche roll that was four days out of date last week.

These things happen - do not feel guilty.

Sunnydayshereatlast · 07/07/2020 16:16

Mouldy food in his bedroom? Your ds is playing at being a teen already op!!

PJmasksandwineplz · 07/07/2020 16:17

Thanks for helping me see light of the situation, it was well stashed cause I'd literally just tidied his room

Paracetamol = pain relief for sore tummy

PJmasksandwineplz · 07/07/2020 16:18

He's definitely been in discomfort going to the loo so we gave him it to help settle him

Last time I had food poisoning, I had horrible stomach ache / cramps.

I took paracetamol for them.

okiedokieme · 07/07/2020 16:27

What is done is done, he'll be fine in a couple of days but dr may have medication to help. Going forward a parenting tip - eat food at the table together, it's a time to chat as they get older.

fleamadonna · 07/07/2020 16:41

My ds once ate a bit of a dead mouse.

Cat had disembowelled it under the table. Ds found it while I was unloading shopping.

It still curls my toes 6 years later but ds is fine.

Winterwoollies · 07/07/2020 17:21

@QuestionableMouse I wouldn’t have thought to take them if everything I ingested was bouncing back up. I guess if he can keep down sickly sweet Calpol, it’s a good sign.

PJmasksandwineplz · 07/07/2020 17:22

Omg the thought of a dead mouse turns my stomach 🤮 I'd have been beside myself if that happened so hats off to you @fleamadonna
