I was one of a few people to be put on furlough in our company despite making it quite clear I'd rather not. I was told at the time that they may well rotate the furloughed workers so I could be back after three weeks, I was also ensured that they would keep in touch and keep me regularly updated on my position. Well it is now June the 6th and I have heard absolutely nothing from them!, to say i'm annoyed is an understatement. Has anybody else been treated like this or have they been kept in the loop?.

I've heard a mix of responses for different companies. Have they not had to keep renewing your furlough? Have you contacted them?

July, 6th of July
What would you expect them to tell you?

Grilledaubergines · 06/07/2020 17:17

Maybe call them?

I do apologise, July it is, only month out. What I would like them to tell me is exactly what they propose to do, do they intend to keep me on furlough until the government decide it's no longer an option?, do they intend to make me redundant?, basically what they said they would do in March, keep in touch with me on a monthly basis to let me know how much longer they intend to keep me on it.

We have a few staff that are still furloughed as they are unable to work from home. Staff get a weekly email with plans and changes in the business, team leaders are in touch at least weekly to make sure they are ok. Each month that furlough has been extended they have had this in writing.
Can you contact your manager? Ask what Is happening?

Stefoscope · 06/07/2020 18:47

I would have expected them to update you after the first couple of weeks and let you know they've decided not to rotate furlough if that's the case. We've had to unfurlough then refurlough staff during the lockdown, as business was slower to pick up than we expected. We have checked in with people once a week though to let them know what's happening.

Our company initially contacted us every 3 week after the updates from the government, then it became monthly usually just before pay day. Personally I’ve contacted my boss directly off my own back a few times (we have a very good relationship) and asked for clarity on some stuff sent from senior management and he’s been good at keeping me in the loop, but then our entire company was closed so they were keeping everyone up to date.
It is crap you’ve not heard anything but can’t you contact them and ask for an update?!

@ShabbyRobedNun - I understand, I get days and dates wrong while out of work, you are not alone.

I got made redundant within a week of lockdown and only getting a limited picture of the scale of it slowly, mainly through LinkedIn.
HR is on furlough, most of my colleagues, friends are gone. Those who are furloughed get the standard BS corporate email about ‘Caring’ and ‘We put our people first’ ... but nothing else.

I hope the initial intention was different, however people who were supposed to keep them informed are either gone or furloughed.

It is frustrating. But I think for as long as there is a paycheque each month, I would cut them some slack.
Most companies are guessing and not sure how to move on and with what work force.
