Should I take their advice? If not, who?

You'll most likely get a list as long as your arm of people to follow, asking on here. What works for one family may not work for the next. I read so many parenting books when I was expecting DS1 and had everything planned out Gina Ford style. It all went tits-up when he arrived and decided not to abide by her manual, of course, so I've been winging it for almost 15 years.

I did like the attachment parenting books I read - understanding that things like co-sleeping and on-demand feeding are not only fine but can make life easier definitely helped me see that I didn't have to do the routine thing. I also loved a sleep book that mentioned the shhhh-pat technique. I can't remember it's name but it was amazing and really helped get DS2 (who was the antichrist at bedtime) to settle once he hit 2 and struggled to switch off.

Read a few books, talk to some friends and wing it.

I have a 2.5 year old and it's more for dealing with tantrums in particular. Actually for a friend whose daughter is 25 months and has started screaming fits until she's making herself sick
