Frozen meat

Shitfuckoh · 06/07/2020 14:02

Froze meat on the day of purchase. Just sorting out the freezer and there's mince with 30th March date. Says freeze on day of purchase (which I did) and use within 3 months.
Will it be fine or do I need to bin it? If so, is that the same for all meat?

Feel a bit silly to be my age & not know the answer to this Blush

Yes, it will be fine. I would generally aim to use it within 6 months, but certainly have used it past this.

safariboot · 06/07/2020 14:06

It will be safe to eat. It might not taste the best, especially if there's signs of "freezer burn" which can occur if the food's not in an airtight wrapping.

LockdownDowner · 06/07/2020 14:07

It will be fine - meat can deteriorate slightly in quality if kept frozen longer but is perfectly safe to use.

IwishIhadaMargarita · 06/07/2020 14:07

It’s fine, I find random meat in the freezer oftenX

Shitfuckoh · 06/07/2020 14:08

Ah. That's great, thank you all! I'm really impressed no one has pointed out how I should know this! Grin

It'll be fine.

I'm slowly working on clearing stocks of frozen meat going back to before Christmas.

SchrodingersImmigrant · 06/07/2020 14:13

The date for how long to keep it frozen isn't that it would go off, it's for quality. Like best before.
Meat (and other things) change over time and lile this they avoid customers coming in after 2 years and moaning that the meat has odd consistency😉

Shitfuckoh · 06/07/2020 14:15

@PickAChew 1 thing I didn't find in mine was pigs in blankets!

@SchrodingersImmigrant no one would actually do that, would they? Shock

I've seen people returning weirder stuff for weirder reasons😂
I had someone trying to return a sweater in May, bought in April, because they don't actually need it because it's warm outside. Not joking. Deadly serious.
I can easily imagine meat quality complaint.

All of ours got eaten, too. I do still have a pack of sage and onion in there, though!

MereDintofPandiculation · 07/07/2020 17:32

Is the 30th March date the date on the original packet or the date you wrote on it to tell you when "3 months from the day of purchase" was?

superram · 07/07/2020 17:36

I eat leftover turkey the following December-you’ll be fine.
