Me too @startrek90! I’ll be 30 in October this year and I’m finally starting my lessons this week!

Hi Op, I started a thread about a month ago saying how much I regret not learning to drive and how lock down has finally kicked in the urgent need. I am almost 49 and I am planning to learn ASAP. You will be fine, I'm sure.

Good plan. I will be 40 next year so maybe I will too. DH turned 40 this year, and people seem to expect to give a bigger than usual gift, so maybe I will ask people to give towards driving lessons instead of some sentimental thing that will gather dust as I missed out on that when I was 17. I had intended to start learning when DC started school in September but we didn't really have the money.

any instructor will be delighted to have any paying customer.

i barely drove aged say 22-34 ish [i.e. inbetween leaving my parents' home & car right until getting one myself when i became a parent], had a few refresher lessons before starting, it felt like a really normal thing to do.

@DarkDarkNight just being scared I suppose.I always knew I'd do it when I was ready

Well done for booking that first lesson. My mother was 50+ learning to drive and subsequently passing her test and my husband 40+.

Perfectly do-able. Best of luck with it all.

I passed mine in January at 41 having had 9 months of lessons, should have been less but my test in November got cancelled 2 days before!
I had points where I was so nervous I questioned what I was doing but I was doing a college course that being able to drive would mean I could earn more money (I passed that too and going on to do my HND).
If you can and once you feel up to it get out and practice as much as you can. DH told me once my test was booked that where ever we went I was driving and it really helped. Use one of the apps for your theory test as they are really good, I used DVSA and ds1 used DVLA and we both passed, me 1st time and ds got 50/50 2nd time round doing things mums way Wink
Good luck with the lessons, I wish I had had the confidence to do it years ago as the freedom is amazing.
