Neighbours vanished leaving 2 cats

Name changed this is incredibly outing.

Over a week ago one of my neighbours (they are a couple) was taken ill and an ambulance was called. We are friendly ish and I asked if they needed any help, they said that they were not going into hospital but to stay with a relative whilst the ill person recovered (Not coronavirus). I know they have two cats so I volunteered at the time to feed them but they said not to worry as they would be back each day to do it. They took other animals (puppies) with them.

It’s now well over a week later and I have seen no sign of the neighbour. I’ve been WFH with a desk at the window looking out onto the shared driveway and seen no car. I can also hear their front door (terraced house) and haven’t heard them. Unless they’re coming over in the dead of night then they haven’t been.

I guess it’s now more of a WWYD? I’ve half jokingly thought about posting some cat biscuits through the letterbox! They’re indoor cats with no access to outside (we have a cat which is why I know this, my cat often goes in their garden and I’ve made conversation to ask if theirs were allowed out). AIBU to feel the responsibility to do something?

A note through the door isn't going to help if the cats are inside the house and the neighbours haven't been back.

nicegem · 04/07/2020 21:52

@ilovesooty if they don’t speak to me within a couple of days I’ve got a much better idea that they haven’t been here.

Could you do something like tape or a smudge of dirt or something on the door so that you know if theyve gone in?

ilovesooty · 04/07/2020 22:40

It might already be too late. I really don't think you should wait another couple of days.

Ardessa · 04/07/2020 22:43

Put some biscuits through the door and some treats, hopefully they come to the door

Without food or water, they'll be dead by then.

@EveryDayIsADuvetDay why did you say that when it isn't even slightly true? The rspca have exactly no legal powers. Why are you making things up?

SillyMoomin · 04/07/2020 23:02

Oh poor cats :(

I’d have to call the RSPCA OP. If you’re wrong, and they took the cats with them, then fine, apologise, buy wine, offer to mow their lawn for the next decade for being a nosy neighbour...

But if you’re right... doesn’t bear thinking about. It’s been a week

slipperywhensparticus · 04/07/2020 23:10

silly question but have you seen any signs of the cats? Any faces at the window meows? Do you usually see them sunning themselves? (Mine are indoor cats they love a windowsill)

ilovesooty · 05/07/2020 11:36

Any more information on the cats?

whiplashy · 05/07/2020 11:47

Did you tap the windows?

TweetUsOnFacebook · 05/07/2020 18:42
