To always be disappointed by takeaways

We’ve massively cut down on takeaways recently but as it’s a Friday I thought it would be nice to order one.

Got a Turkish from Deliveroo from somewhere close by with 4.7 out of 5 stars and it was just so disappointing. It was totally tasteless and verging on cold. I ordered a mixed hot starter selection instead of a main and it looked like something you’d get from the Tesco frozen section at Christmas.

Thinking back I can’t remember the last takeaway I really enjoyed and thought was worth the £30 spent with the exception of an Indian which I always love but DP not so much Hmm

I think maybe I like the idea of it rather than the reality of feeling like I could have made something much tastier for a third of the price

I had Chinese 2 nights ago and it was bloody lovely. Satay chicken skewers were fab.

We have a Thai takeaway near us that’s out of this world. Only problem is not over-ordering.

I discovered a local Indian that does an amazing chef special tikka masala and honestly I thought about that curry for days afterwards.

There also an excellent kebab place that’s 5 star near here too.

I get that sometimes it’s a let down and especially if you go rogue and order something different. But mostly I lobs our takeaways.

Mostly I love our takeaways and most are delicious.

We have great restaurants close by (se London) every cuisine you want

It’s not so much the food quality it just isn’t the same as when served freshly cooked that why I’m disappointed

Apart from curry but that’s often nicer heated up the next day

The only good takeaway is fish and chips. You can't replicate that crisp batter without a deep fat fryer. But even our usually brilliant local curry house was delivering such inedible, greasy, lukewarm cack over lockdown that I have gone off ever going there again. £40 of inedible gloop.

When ordering online, I tend to look beyond the overall star rating, and read one star reviews to find out what customers complaints are.

I have a lot of options near me, and the quality varies e.g chain takeaways provide mediocre over priced food, cheap and cheerful Indian and Chinese eateries are generally consistent. Pizza places ditto.

For something special, I look for a place that has good word of mouth, or a place that has won awards or been reviewed on a website/ newspaper. Even then, it can be hit and miss. A bad experience puts me off from ordering somewhere again.

I agree. The fees being charged by delivery apps has gone up as well. I’ve talked myself out of ordering delivery a lot recently because I don’t feel like paying $8–$10 in fees, bringing my total up to $25 for a burger and fries. No thanks.

I can’t stand take away food. I don’t see it as a treat

We've been getting a lot of Papa Johns pizza lately. DH prefers it to Dominos. The one near us does 3 huge XXL pizzas for £35, which feeds the 3 of us for 3 meals.
