So want to try a top in in sainsburys fitting room not open so I proceed to try it on in front of a mirror and am told I'm not allowed due to covid because if I dont buy it it's going back on the shelves.
So I said well if I take it home and bring it back same thing to which she said no it goes in the back for 14 days so what you think.

Just do as youre bloody told. You cause more work for the staff by ignoring them.

SurfnTerfFantasticmissfoxy · 03/07/2020 13:11

I think if the fitting room was shut you should have taken the hint that trying things on in the middle of a global pandemic was not permitted, not to encouraged and frankly moronic. Honestly despair

ShirleyPhallus · 03/07/2020 13:11

Sounds reasonable, not sure what there is difficult to understand here?

AnimalCrossing · 03/07/2020 13:12

I think we’ve been told this for months now that there will be no trying on...and clothes that are returned will be put in quarantine for 14 days before being put back to sell.

LochJessMonster · 03/07/2020 13:13

Well she’s correct.
You would have just put it back on the shelf. If you have bought and returned it, it would have been quarantined for 14days.

It’s common policy now.

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 03/07/2020 13:13

I get your logic, but I these trying times you should just comply with what you’re told with a “sorry” rather than arguing back.

Clappingforjoy · 03/07/2020 13:14

Well I bought it anyway

I can guarantee there are loads of customers trying them on the mirrors are all there inviting them

Which bit of reducing risk do you not quite get? I saw a woman trying a dress on on the shop floor when I was on my lunch break this week, I really wanted to go and find an assistant to let them know.

I bought the clothes I wanted to try and took them home, the assistant assured me that was ok because everything is being quarantined upon return. It's really not difficult.

KrisAkabusi · 03/07/2020 13:20

Why do you think the rules don't apply to you?

Clappingforjoy · 03/07/2020 13:20

Well I guess I'm out of touch because I havent shopped for clothes all during lockdown

I’m often invited by mirrors. Just last week my bathroom mirror invited me for lunch and another time, the hallway mirror invited me to a barn dance
Nonnymum · 03/07/2020 13:23

Of course you can't try it on at the moment. Teh changing rooms are closed for a good reason. There is a pandemic.
It's easier for them to put things aside for 14 days than try and follow everyone just in case they try something on in the shop

Clappingforjoy · 03/07/2020 13:25

Okay I get the humour never mind I've learnt my lesson

I thought it was common knowledge that we couldn't try things on in shops at the moment.

Clappingforjoy · 03/07/2020 13:29

I havent shopped during lockdown so I've overlooked it.

I think it is ridiculous. I had to buy some uniform for my son this week and made him strip and try stuff on in the aisles. We tried on 5 pairs of trousers in different sizes and styles until I found one that fit him. It is better for them to quarantine the clothes he tried on straight away rather than me taking them to a cashier who will touch them, then I take them home and then when they don't fit have to return them and another cashier touches them then a returns person quarantines them. What a bloody palaver.

With sales in most shops probably quite low, are you expecting them to unfurlough staff to follow customers around the shop to make sure they're not manhandling everything? Not too sure that's financially viable, I'm imagining most stores are working on a minimum staff structure.

They have taken away mirrors in Tesco !

TheFormerPorpentinaScamander · 03/07/2020 13:45

Handy trouser trying on tip...

If the waistband fits around your neck when it's done up (I don't mean put trousers over your head, wrap the waist band round like a scarf) then they will fit your waist.
Measure length by holding them up from the waist, at the back.

I've done this for years and the only time I've had to return trousers is when I bought them without the DC.

This isnt 100% foolproof I'm sure but it's close enough.

Thanks for the tip. I will try the waistband thing later when he is home. He has had a growth spurt and also become a bit chubby in lockdown so I didn't even know where to start with size or fit. Added to it is some SEN issues with texture which complicates things more.
TheFormerPorpentinaScamander · 03/07/2020 14:03

Good luck @PikachuAndMe. I hope it helps!
Ds1 has started trying trousers on now because at almost 16 he has grown rather chunky thighs (I blame my genes for that) and some styles don't fit his legs. But whenever they went through a 'chunky' phase it worked Grin
And you have my sympathies on the texture front. Ds1 used to spend half an hour putting socks on because they didnt feel right Hmm. Over the years hes reduced that to 5 mins Grin

They have taken away mirrors in Tesco !

They were probably making inappropriate invitations to customers!
