Toy tidying

Are any of you on the lockdown family tips page?

Not sure if you have seen people requesting to see people's bedrooms and bathrooms for inspiration. Wow people have gorgeous homes. I feel my house is disgusting now lol.

This morning someone has asked about book storage for kids. Her kids had basically wrecked the books and they were all slung on a shelf with some ripped up boxes. A women told her that she should take them of the kids and not allow books until they respect them. I agree to an extent. My son's got his on his bedroom shelf neat. But occasionally his sister will launch them across his room as she's a toddler. They get sorted eventually.

But it's got me thinking. My kids make a mess. All kids have far too much these days. I'm forever battling it now they are not at school. They have nice bedrooms and toyboxes etc. I had kind of convinced myself it's life with kids. But not I've seen how organised others are. One lady said her kids only can have toys in one room and they are banned from the living room etc as she hates clutter. Is this where I went wrong? How do people do it? My kids are messy. I'm not sure whether to embrace it or be ashamed I've not trained them better?

Are your toys organised.

Are your kids tidy.

Are they banned from toys downstairs?

Tell me everything lol.

Are your toys organised.
When we've tidied up yes, by categories...right now there's some on the living room floor.

Are your kids tidy.
DSs 4 and a baby, not tidy at all, the 4 year old whinges and moans but 90% of the time I get him to help me tidy up.

Are they banned from toys downstairs?
We live in a flat and DS1 has a box room (baby still in with us) so the toys are shared out between the rooms - I store the nicer looking ones in the living room!

We used to do the 'tidy up song' at the end of the morning/ afternoon which worked well when they were very little.

Now they definitely have to help tidying but I end up doing the rest

I don't see how anything you said is unreasonable?

Yes our toys are organised in the ikea type storge units.

2 of my kids are still young- 3 and under. We are teaching them to tidy, we do it together. One helps fine, one hates it.

They have their toys downstairs, in a small playroom which comes off the living room. They do bring their toys through to the living room but at night they are tidied away into play room so we have a toy free zone to relax in the evening.

During the day the place is a mess with toys, being honest. We tend to have a tidy up before lunch and before dinner, and try to keep on top of it during the day.

Remember people are only letting you see what they want you to see on that page

Just throw them all into their room and shut the door. Job done.

My children are only 22m and 9m.

My toys are organised every evening after they go to bed, if I do it before my toddler tries to help but gets distracted and excited by every toy and nothing gets packed away 😂
They are definitely not tidy, they both throw things everywhere to try and find the toy they want! They’re too young to understand the concept and to be honest it doesn’t take me long at all to pack them away in the evening so I’m fine with it as long as things are being played with!
They have a cupboard of toys in their room for when I’m doing laundry etc but 95% of their toys are in the living room! They have two shelving units, a play kitchen, a little colouring table, a slide, a pushchair and a walker! My living room is definitely more catered for them, but I have my sofa and arm chair, and the majority of the floor space is clear (all toys against the wall), although they use the floor space most of the day! One of my friends recently asked how I coped with loads of toys in the living room but it really doesn’t bother me, I don’t use the living room for much in the day and when they toys are packed away in the evening they’re out of the way!
