To Think Most Would Get A CV-19 Vaccine

Caveat:

This AIBU poll is not for people who think there will never be a vaccine. So, "YABU, b/c there's never going to be one" is going to be ignored.

YABU: "No, I'm not going to get the vaccine."
YANBU: "Yes, I would."

It's OK to qualify your answer. For example, "YANBU, but I wouldn't get it for my under-fives, etc."

Also wondering this: I'm picking up on here that only certain people in the UK qualify for the flu shot (we get it for free in the US). Is that true? If so, do you think that will change this fall?

I will probably get it if advised to. I will not be rushing to get it as soon as it's made available. I hate needles.

FizzFan · 02/07/2020 23:53

YANBU. I’ll get it for me and/or my kids ASAP

Lindy2 · 02/07/2020 23:53

I'd get the vaccine. I want my life and my family's life to go back to normal.

IAintentDead · 02/07/2020 23:55

Yes I would because from what I read on hear - those that most need it or are most worried about Covid are also scared of having a vaccine.

MarcelineMissouri · 02/07/2020 23:56

Yes I would have the vaccine for sure.

ComtesseDeSpair · 02/07/2020 23:58

I think it’s pretty certain they will prioritise the same “vulnerable” groups for vaccine as for the annual flu vaccine. If there is limited vaccine available after they may offer it for private purchase to non-vulnerable groups, as with the flu vaccine.

I wouldn’t bother with a vaccine, personally. According to my antibody test I’ve had it, and if I had it when I thought I did, it wasn’t a big deal - I ran one of my fastest ever half marathons two weeks after recovering. I’m a low risk group and even if immunity doesn’t last, it doesn’t worry me. The only thing which would encourage me to get vaccinated ahead of schedule would be an “immunity passport” arrangement.

loutypips · 02/07/2020 23:58

Due to health conditions I'm eligible for the flu vaccine so I hope that I can have the Covid one too. Not so much for me, but to protect my parents.

IAintentDead · 02/07/2020 23:58

*here not hear

Sparklesocks · 03/07/2020 00:06

I honestly don’t know, I’m very pro vaccine but would worry if it seemed rushed out? Which might make me reluctant. But if I read up on it and was satisfied with the clinical trials, yes I would get it.

And yes only certain people get the flu jab in the UK for free on the NHS - people with health conditions, elderly people, those with weaker immune systems etc - anyone who may become very ill if they got the flu. If you don’t fit into those categories you can’t get the jab for free, but you can pay to have it done. Some workplaces also offer it if it’s a part of their benefits package.

TARSCOUT · 03/07/2020 00:06

I won't have the vaccine should it ever be available. As per a PP today, my reasoning is for me alone and will not stand up against any argument in favour. Here's why - I have had Crohns for.many years and been in and out of flares. Eventually I got to the stage only a relatively new treatment might be able to help. It was only 10 years trialled at that time and there was an increased risk of cancer. Given my age at that time they didn't think I would be high risk so I took it for 8 years and then I got cancer. Don't get me wrong, put me in the same position now and I would still take it as it gave me many years free of Crohns. The Cancer put me in to early menopause and left me with many other issues. Should I get cancer again I don't think I would take any treatment because I don't think I could cope.

When the swine flu vaccination was in place I was first in the queue. As autoimmune I was to receive two doses. My DP was also eligible because of me to get the vaccine. Both of us were really ill with it, so much so I didn't return for my 2nd shot.

And that's it. Nothing spectacularly scientific. Just an acceptance of being at peace with myself and accepting my life course. Everyone should be free to do with their body what they wish to.

TheHighestSardine · 03/07/2020 00:10

I'll take it. Sooner the better.

Osirus · 03/07/2020 00:10

Only certain groups qualify for a free flu jab OP, but anyone can get one if they’re happy to pay. I do, it’s only around £12 so worth having.

I would certainly hope to receive a COVID vaccine if/when one is available. I’d pay ££££ to get one if I had to. I hate the fear of this disease. I want it done and gone and I’d pay as much as I could for that.

MiddlesexGirl · 03/07/2020 00:12

YABU if its offered on the same kind of basis as the general flu jab. I don't need or want the flu jab so I won't want or need a covid-19 jab.

pigsDOfly · 03/07/2020 00:19

I get a free flu jab due to my age and would therefore qualify for the covid19 jab and yes, I would have it.

Greydrapex · 03/07/2020 00:21

No. I wouldn’t get it.

Rumbletumbleinmytummy · 03/07/2020 00:36

I am unsure. I'm sorry, you want definite answers but I genuinely do not know. I was speaking about this with my dad and my husband earlier.
Dad says yes, he would have it.
DH says yes. Definitely.
Me. Not sure. I know too many people who think that the flu jab have made too many people unwell, and it's made me anxious. I'd probably wait, then get it if nothing hits the news about it being bad

SisterAgatha · 03/07/2020 00:37

I’d take it.

snowybean · 03/07/2020 00:37

YANBU

MiniMum97 · 03/07/2020 01:00

I am not sure. I have a lot of underlying health conditions and it's a rushed out not properly tested vaccination. I think it depends on the COVID situation at the time.

ddl1 · 03/07/2020 01:56

YANBU. I definitely want it!

TheMammothHunters · 03/07/2020 02:12

I will have it- HCW at high risk so hopefully quite high up the queue. DS, DH and my parents will have it too when they can.
My friend is in the vaccine trialGrin

thepeopleversuswork · 03/07/2020 06:36

God yes I'd be at the front of the bloody queue

PermanentTemporary · 03/07/2020 06:40

Yes. I have antibodies but I have the flu jab every year and I would definitely take this one. I tried for the vaccine trial but that's when they found the antibodies

cptartapp · 03/07/2020 06:41

I have the antibodies (for now!). Even as an NHS key worker, as a person with no underlying conditions I wouldn't be first in line for this vaccine, especially if it had to be given annually.
