To expect more choice of slippers from Marks and Spencer?

My OH needs some new joggers so to make the order up to £50 and get free delivery I thought I might get a new pair of slippers as mine look rank having been worn a lot more during lockdown.

I wanted a pair the same as I already have but they have a choice of 6 pairs, none of which are the ones I want, and that's that.

I know it's not prime slipper buying time like the run up to Christmas but surely to only be able to offer a choice of six pairs seems ridiculous.

They've only been open for just over a couple of weeks so what has happened to all their stock?

@BarbaraofSeville that’s the kind of thing I like. Don’t like soft fluffy slippers, I have dodgy knees so like something with a good supportive sole to cushion them.

IamEarthymama · 03/07/2020 10:45

There really is no excuse for telling people off for posting about something that affects them in that moment.
I want to find some cutlery that matches the set I collected Tesco tokens for.
The knives have taken to disappearing without trace.
I planned on asking if anyone on MN could help me trace them as well as contacting Tesco.
Should I not do that because I am worried about the future of the community centre I run?
I cannot see how dealing with one situation prevents me considering the other.

To answer your question CarlaH I bought M&S slippers for my wife st the beginning of lockdown. They looked lovely but were worn through in a month.
Much to my horror she bought Crocs for both of us! 😳
I love shoes and sandals of the class known on MN as Fugly, DMs, El Naturalista, Oxygen an was really scathing in my opinion of Crocs. However having post Covid19 symptoms which have exacerbated issues with my feet and ankles my Crocs are perfect. For the first time in several years I don’t struggle when going on walks or when I am on my feet for several hours.
There are lots of bargains to be found online atm, so I urge you to forget M&S and try the Crocs!! 😉😊
sanjadog those slippers are glorious!

BeanbagMcTavish · 03/07/2020 10:50

Wow, I can't believe that there are posters who are so determined to guilt you out for daring to post about slippers!

FWIW I think flipflops are better for summer around the house. In fact I may start a new thread about this just to piss people off...

PassingByAndThoughtIdDropIn · 03/07/2020 10:59

If ever there was a time when we needed a good choice of slippers it’s now.

Totes slippers are great and good IME for dealing with/preventing plantar fasciitis, available from a wide range of high street and retail outlets. (Am I allowed to waste time on frivolities if I’m also talking about a cripplingly painfully medical condition?)

Alsohuman · 03/07/2020 11:00

Maybe I’m weird but my slippers are retired in the summer.

1Morewineplease · 03/07/2020 11:00

@sonjadog I need those slippers!

BarbaraofSeville · 03/07/2020 11:02

I do go barefoot or switch to flip flops in the summer, but it has to be proper warm or else my feet are cold.

MitziK · 03/07/2020 11:04

@SqidgeBum

I am a highly qualified and experienced secondary teacher. I spent yesterday trying to figure out how to pay my mortgage and feed my kids as I am being forced on early maternity leave from September. It's that or face 300 students a week with no PPE or SD at 32 weeks pregnant and risk a c section and an extremely premature baby. Have you ever tried to feed your family and pay the mortgage on state maternity benefit?

My husband is also losing his job due to covid. Have you ever had to find a job during a pandemic?

If all I had to worry about was M&S slippers I would consider myself an incredibly lucky person. Yes, maybe I was short with you. Maybe you deserve to be annoyed over the selection of slippers in your local M&S. It's mostly jealousy that slippers were something that was a problem for you.

A lot of people who aren't highly qualified and experienced in a job that has considerable security go through such things every day. Or they get fired made redundant or not given any hours on their ZHCs when they are 'purely coincidentally' pregnant.

Or their second job as an examinations invigilator that would top up the hours they could get on their main job to something resembling 35% of a teaching salary from November to June (and beyond in colleges/continual assessment subjects) has disappeared.

It's still nice to have a decent pair of slippers to wear whilst looking for additional employment. Especially as the odds of being able to afford to put the heating on this winter are looking lower all the time.

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 03/07/2020 11:08

I wish they did non-fluffy moccasins. Theyre the most practical for me, but the furry lining pulls my socks off! They definitely had ones lined wroth cotton in the past.

IAmEarthy I think your knives might be Alessi (possibly Milano or one of their other collections).

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 03/07/2020 11:11

Nuovo Milano if they're the ones I have. Smile They cost a bit more than Tesco tokens now though!

GreyGardens88 · 03/07/2020 11:13

I couldn't get worked up over this...

PirateWeasel · 03/07/2020 11:15

@timeandtune Those are my dream slippers!!! 😍

Sparklesocks · 03/07/2020 11:18

I wonder if it’s a seasonal thing, slippers are thought to be quite ‘warm’ with many having fluffy insides etc so maybe not an item they focus on stocking in the summer where there’s less demand?

Debenhams have quite a few options

sonjadog · 03/07/2020 11:33

It is maybe a seasonal thing because slippers are a good Christmas gift (not too expensive, not too personal but also not too impersonal, etc), more than that slippers are not needed all year round?

IamEarthymama · 03/07/2020 11:49

PoladotsandMoonbeams thank you so much

CarlaH · 03/07/2020 19:18

Wow I thought this thread had just died a quiet death so thanks for everybody's input.

I don't actually need slippers urgently and was trying to make my way to the minimum spend for free delivery. I was just surprised at the paucity of choice but really hadn't thought it through that people will have been ordering online all through lockdown.

Still I have lots of options to try now.

SqidgeBum

So very sorry to hear your troubles and apologies for being flippant. I had planned to put this in Chat but this board moves so fast I was sure it would disappear from the Active section long before anybody would actually respond.

So hang on, let me check I've got this right.

Poster on MN in a tizz about slippers = not OK, needs to get a grip.
Poster on MN in a tizz because another poster posted about slippers = reasonable.
Poster on MN in a tizz because another poster posted about poster posting about slippers = ?

JesusInTheCabbageVan · 03/07/2020 19:31

I wear slipper socks, by the way.

wowfudge · 03/07/2020 19:36

Flip flops in summer, slippers in winter. Sainsbury's usually have a good range and the ones I bought from there were cheaper and have lasted longer than the M&S ones I had.

noodlezoodle · 04/07/2020 00:54

YANBU.

Also, try Mahabis. They are ludicrously expensive but they are incredibly virtually indestructable.

Midsommar · 04/07/2020 01:11

Like another poster has said, it's quite refreshing to have a trivial thread like this to distract from the usual neighbour-bashing, shite husbands and Covid threads! YANBU OP, I love a goodpair of boot slippers but they're so bloody hard to find during the spring/summer months. Do retailers not realise that we like to wear slippers all year round.
Slippers are for life, not just for Christmas!
