I live in a UK city with more than one large university, and I live in an area that has a lot of students (rows of terraced housing). It's a bit of a mix of students, young professionals and older couples. The end of June signalled the end of the tenancies for many so there were lots of parents coming to pick up their children and bring them home for the summer. There were also plenty of people moving into places at the start of their new tenancies.
During lockdown most of my student neighbours have been having a great time socialising within their households, outside in the good weather (when it was here..) - that's great, good for them. It must be stressful thinking about going into 2nd/3rd/4th year with a whole semester short. But last night there was a big party a few doors down, so I went to ask them to shut the windows and lower the music a bit to stop the sound travelling, and the young girl who opened the door laughed and said "oh sorry I don't live here - I don't even know the people who do live here!". I could see behind her there were at least 30 people milling about - clearly a lot more than one household.
I know there are people everywhere that are breaking lockdown but seriously?! AIBU to think these kids need to grow up? The spike in Leicester was apparently partly driven by a rise in infections in under 19s. Not sure what I'm asking here but more just needed a rant - I'm not much older than them and have been strictly following the rules.
