LongLiveTheQueenBee · 01/07/2020 16:55

When i had gallbladder pain it was in my chest, it came in waves like contractions.

Lansonmaid · 01/07/2020 16:55

Yes, I know I have gallstones because I had a scan. Every now and then I assume one gets stuck in the bile duct and I get severe abdominal pain accompanied by pain in my right shoulder. Trying to avoid having gall bladder removed though by cutting down fat in the diet

ArnoldSweatyknickers · 01/07/2020 17:23

I've got gallstones and an inflamed gallbladder. Gallstone attack started in my chest, felt like I was being crushed. Pain radiated outward from there to my back, shoulderblades, neck etc. When not having an attack felt like I had bruised ribs on the right side. I'm waiting to have my gallbladder out.

DuckALaurent · 01/07/2020 17:26

Yes.

Pain started in the centre of my chest but radiated backwards towards right shoulder blade.

That was the specific symptom that steered the doctor to Gallbladder he said.

revelsandrose · 01/07/2020 17:32

Mine started in centre of chest, slightly to the right under right boob, went through to my back and entire torso when having an attack, sweating, vomiting, couldn't move I was in that much pain, if it's gallstones get it sorted sooner rather than later, a bad gallbladder attack is worse than childbirth.

Mammyofasuperbaby · 01/07/2020 17:34

I get pain that radiates out from under my ribs on the right side into my chest and shoulder. Its worse than labour for me as there is no rest bite from the pain.
I've been MRI scanned and I have sludge in my gallbladder which is causing irritation but is also making my liver deranged. I need to have my gallbladder out to protect my liver

feliciabirthgiver · 01/07/2020 17:38

Exactly what @revelandrose said!

Mumof2crazies · 01/07/2020 17:39

My pain started just under my right boob has gradually started in my right side and now my shoulder the pain is unbearable

Definitely sounds like gallbladder. It is horrific. Nothing stops the pain, I had a five hour attack once and ended up in a&e, vomiting in the ambulance, on a drip... just don’t eat any fat until you can have it out. Is the pain after food ?

Mumof2crazies · 01/07/2020 17:57

That sound horrible. Yes it starts not long after food but can aslo be random at night aswell. I have a list of foods thats best to avoid that the gp gave me. Hopefully my bloods will be back tomorrow and im not waiting long on a scan. They gave me co codamol to help with the pain but so far they haven't worked

Hi, I started a thread about gallstones and having gallbladder surgery last year - lots of information and stories from various posters on there that you might find helpful!

I had emergency surgery to remove my gallbladder 3 years ago. I remember the pain like it was literally yesterday. Began under my right breast and radiated to my back. Was in and out of hospital for months getting morphine before I was diagnosed, kept being told it was reflux! I was vomitting, my stool was white because I also had stones lodged in my ducts. I wouldn't wish the pain on my worst enemy!

UserThenLotsOfNumbers · 01/07/2020 18:01

I never had severe pain, just a dull ache (very lucky I know!) and indigestion. Also my blood results were normal, but an ultrasound revealed two large gallstones. Just be aware that gallstones don't always present typically.

Dylaninthemovies1 · 01/07/2020 18:05

It’s the worst pain ever! Thought I was having a heart attack!

A hot water bottle or hot shower helps a tiny bit

@UserThenLotsOfNumbers
Thank you will go and have a wee read

Yes, shoulder pain is a classic symptom. I sympathise as it's the worst pain I ever experienced, made labour look like a doddle. I always remember going home from work when an attack was coming on, catching sight of my reflection in a shop window and being horrified - I was bent over in pain stooped like a little old
lady. The relief when when you get it removed is indescribable. Good luck OP!

ShopTattsyrup · 01/07/2020 18:45

Mine was central chest pain that radiated through to my back and then across my ribs at the front and back (like a butterfly in my head). Horrific pain, nothing I did made it better and everything I did seemed to make it worse. Mine caused pancreatitis and so I was hospitalised, the cause was a single stone that I managed to pass in the 48hours between the first scan and my second - so no gallbladder surgery Thankfully!

Mumof2crazies · 01/07/2020 18:48

The pain and burning sensation in shoulder and the feeling that someone has jumped on my ribs is the worst thing I have ever experienced i have been through labour twice and had tonsils removed. I have seen some poeple have waited a long time to get theirs removed. Did anyone else have horrible nausea

OP posts:
MooseBeTimeForSummer · 01/07/2020 18:57

Absolutely. The attack that sent me to hospital started off like someone was slowly pushing a red hot poker into my right shoulder blade. It worked it’s way through and ended up in my chest.

I had surgery that evening.

Bibijayne · 01/07/2020 19:04

Yes. Just to let you know, if you keep getting pain but they cannot find gallstones - keep pushing. I have a fault with my bile duct which causes the same symptoms but ultrasound scans do not show gallstones (because they are not there). They discovered the problem with an MRCT and a HIDA scan.

poblwc · 01/07/2020 19:09

It's absolutely excruciating pain, I had terrible nausea with it as well even when not having an attack. Was misdiagnosed multiple times with heartburn and told I had a low pain threshold Angry

The good news is that having it removed completely cured it. I felt like a new person! Good luck OP.

SillyYak · 01/07/2020 19:24

On the plus side, having gallstone attacks before I had children made my two labours a breeze.

Lancrelady80 · 01/07/2020 19:39

Sounds a lot like mine. I ended up blue lighted to A&E because I'm crap at identifying and describing pain, and because there are heart issues in the family and by that point I had awful pain in my chest they thought it could be that, or else pulmonary embolism. Fortunately it wasn't, but it was the worst pain ever, and God bless morphine!

But right shoulder pain (really severe) was the first symptom to kick in.

Gallbladder removed last October (hospital was in June) and everything is now fine, I'm all back to normal.

Milkshake54 · 01/07/2020 19:43

I’ve had them, had my gall bladder removed last year and honestly was the best thing I’ve ever done!!
The attacks were so painful, I was vomiting, I had to call an ambulance in the middle of the night! Honestly the worst pain ever!!

If you get it removed, make sure they send you away with stronger painkillers. They sent me away with instructions to take paracetamol and ibuprofen, but the gas they pump you with can be painful after surgery. I projectile vomited because of it 😂. (Still 100% worth the surgery though!! Had no issues since!!)

Mumof2crazies · 01/07/2020 19:44

So gald to hear everyone was back to some sort of normal after the removal
